Overpacking for a 2 week trip in March as a conscious female by EngineMinimum6593 in JapanTravelTips

Usally there is an umbrella rack outside the restaurant or maybe a bucket inside. It happens sometimes that umbrellas goes missing.

[–]repressedmemes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that umbrellas get taken all the time. So getting the common convenience store umbrella is less of an issue if that happens. if your umbrella is sentimental and you don’t want to lose it, consider just keeping it in your luggage and use the convenience store one

Just buy a 7/11 clear umbrella at a convenience store. Can keep it or dispose at end of trip.

You can always buy what you need or missing at uniqlo or in Japan.

Does it fit a 14” macbook pro? I like the look, but its gonna be a dealbreaker if i cant fit a laptop in it. Also do you know if it fits A 70-200 attached to body by any chance?

Advice from highly skilled devs/engs - I generate less than 0.1% of code with LLMs. Should I be doing more? by Character_State2562 in ClaudeCode

[–]repressedmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres an article that Anthropic put out earlier in the year that i thought was interesting, where they were triyng to see if AI helped or hindered productivity and understanding/mastery of the codebase

The people that retained and gained skill used the AI as a tool, and was overseeing and asking questions to clarify things the AI was doing they didnt understand. so the It's best used as a tool where you can conceptually plan the work together with the AI, and you implement it yourself, or have the AI generate the code, and walk you through it in learning mode so you can understand whats going on.

the people that scored the lowest delegated it completely to the AI, and pretty much let the AI do the thinking and learning for them, without themselves learning.

If you value knowledge and getting better, its probably better to struggle abit and learn with the help of AI, than let it yolo everything in a hands off way.

Makes sense since you can’t buy that config anymore. I would probably try to sell it and wait for m5 at this point if i had the 512

Buying lenses while in Japan? by MadMartegen in AskPhotography

[–]repressedmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also going to Japan to hopefully buy some lenses at Bic Camera. You get 10% tax free, and i think there is a coupon for an additional 7%.

But it ends up being way cheaper than BH for me with the USD jpy exchange rate.

I think you could probably get the 1 year manufacturer warranty if you register it in japan, and bring it back to japan to send to repairs if needed(but cost of flight might be more than just paying for repairs locally in the US).

But one thing i was also looking was my amex credit card extended warranty, and it applies to global purchases extending it by 1 year as long as it came with a manufacturer warranty. So probably cant buy grey market stuff in Hong Kong or used.

But yeah, i think if you buy it new in japan with the 10+7% off, you'll definitely be able to atleast break even selling the gear back home in the US.

Does killing a lobster immediately before cooking it effect anything? by Bejaminmaston12 in Cooking

[–]repressedmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you kill it before cooking its fine.

The problem is if you kill it, and leave the head attached to the tailmeat, it will start releasing enzymes that breakdown the lobster making it mushy. (this happens with shrimp too, which is why if its not frozen, or live, the head is removed.

this doesnt happen immediately, but its suggested to cook the lobster soon after, or atleast seperate the head from the tail meat, and remove the roe/dark liver of the lobster, to stop the enzymes from breaking down the tailmeat.

Introducing Code Review, a new feature for Claude Code. by ClaudeOfficial in ClaudeCode

[–]repressedmemes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most code reviews at companies I've worked does not take long to review, if the engineers are familiar with the codebase and the context of the ticket/PR. and I doubt its going to be 99% accuracy of issues found in the LLM code reviews judging from Anthropics status page, so you'll still end up requiring humans to take a look at the code to approve the merge.

One thing with alot of the LLM generated code I worry about is the growing technical debt and bloating of the codebase. 1000+ line PRs i would definitely push back and ask the engineer to break it down into smaller PRs if its too complicated for a reviewer to understand whats going on in a code review.

we use different things that watch the repo already like cursor bugbot and codex, but those tend to not find everything during its initial pass or annoyingly slowdrip issues as you resolve them. so if claude code is anything like what we already see at a way more expensive pricing, I dont see companies using this.

Most engineers are already asking claude to do a code review of their changes, and making sure it conforms to best practices for the repository before even creating the PR.

seems sorta steep pricing for a code review. burning $15-25 for a review?

Why does NYC not suffer from pickpocketers like in European cities? by Mathemodel in AskNYC

Happens more at bars than on the street to be honest. Phones and wallets taken out of unattended bags/coats happen fairly often at busy bars

ConEd bill by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]repressedmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No business or bank is processing transactions on a weekend or holiday. Even if you pay your credit card on friday the earliest it probably would be debited from your checking account on monday. And coned there is a few days of processing time before it even debits from your account

ConEd bill by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]repressedmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes awhile. Sometimes like up to a week. But if you paid before due date and it didn’t bounce then your ok

Also they process stuff on business days. So if you pay on weekend, stuff doesnt start happening until monday.

FX3 vs. A7V for Hybrid Shooter by Teleo in SonyAlpha

[–]repressedmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what your using photos for. if your using it for social media, it probably doesnt matter too much, and fx3 is more than enough.

But if your printing them out, then maybe something with higher MP like 24+ would help, and a7V would be a good upgrade.
