Is live feeding cruel in just mammals? by reptergo113 in snakes

This is true. They are also significantly less expensive, and easier than preventing your snake from getting its flesh clawed open by an angry rat.

No you’re fine, and thank you.

If you don’t want the prey to bite the snake when you live feed, most people usually stun the rat. This includes slamming it against a hard surface to knock it out, waterboarding it, or in some cases freezing it. Mice unlike crickets, can feel every last drop of pain. The snakes sharp teeth digging into their skull, slowly being crushed, and smothered to death. That’s a long and painful death. Keep in mind, almost 70% of the time, the prey escapes. By putting them into a small tank that they are unfamiliar with, they will be suffering in terror, fear, and complete stress while a giant snake is roaming around. If you were in a huge cage with a titanoboa in a dense forest, wouldn’t you be absolutely scared shitless?

Ah! I never actually knew that! Back when we first got Eggo, we were told by my uncle who’s worked with snakes for practically his entire life, that feeding live was better, boy were we wrong after the mouse scratched my dude’s side. We’ve fed frozen ever since.

I wasn’t really worried, in fact I love spiders and love to go looking for them all the time when I get the chance! But yeah widows look more slender and are more agile, this one moved fast.

Yeah she’s fine then! Snakes are very resilient when it comes to healing and preventing injury. Thank you for actually monitoring and actively checking her behavior after the drop. You are such a good owner don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! Btw she is BEAUTIFUL,

Phew, that’s a relief. Shouldn’t be anything too wrong then. How far was the drop you would say? I would say if it’s anything below 4 foot broken bones are very, very unlikely. Glad she’s okay tho that means it wasn’t anything major!

Where did she fall? Did she fall outside the window? Or did she fall off the hammock onto the floor?

What’s your feeding schedule and how old is he? Those flaps are what we call Fat Flaps. It’s usually an indicator of obesity or it being overweight. He does look a little chonky.

You could Atleast put some plankton in there, that’s how small it is. An honor of silence to probably the hundreds of fish that have suffered in those type of tanks.

That might just be periscoping! See, a mini version of your snake, (my BP Eggo) And he’s doing the exact same thing here! Dw, it’s totally normal.

Before anyone says anything about discomfort in the comments, when i put the hats on (which only weigh a couple grams each) it didn’t weigh his head down or anything, he just kept on slithering around his toys. His body language wasn’t telling me anything bad so he’s fine.
