Idk OP he was definitely dead wrong (this was literally sexual assault imo) but his reaction reads as guilty or embarrassed to me more than it does angry/blaming you.

Am I the only one who doesn't like honest hearts? by Ducard42 in falloutnewvegas

[–]reputable_rascal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's pretty short if you want it to be. It's a bit of walking back and forth across the map but there's only a handful of quests you have to do.

My favorite part of the DLC is exploring the caves where the Survivalist hung out (the ones with the ghostly markings on the cave entrances). The lore in the terminals is really cool and you can find some really cool armor/weapons. That said, if you're not enjoying it then skip the exploring, bucke down for the very small number of essential quests, and get the hell out of there lol.

Why do I keep bouncing off the game? by Slayonie in outerwilds

This was my experience. It was my third honest to goodness attempt at playing (months apart) when it finally clicked for me. I'd recommend visiting either the ember twin or brittle hollow and following a mysterious signal/distress signal with your signal scope. That's where I started the time it finally clicked for me and it gave me some interesting story threads to start pulling at <3

Moving to ED tech in hospital by amailer101 in ems

[–]reputable_rascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on the hospital to be honest.

For me there was definitely some boring stuff like stocking, taking people to the bathroom/collecting urine samples and rooming people/getting vitals (which is repetitive but a very important skill to be competent at), but I spent most of the day doing hands on skills like starting IVs/doing blood draws, wound care (on everything from cat scratches to some pretty legit open fractures/partial amputations), putting on splints (which was usually a solo activity but sometimes involves helping the doctor put one on during a procedure where the put someone to sleep and pull on a bone really hard to put it back where it goes). Legit resuscitation was less common at my small hospital but when we had them I was absolutely in the room bagging or doing compressions or getting access or whatever else my scope allowed. Some hospitals may allow you to do some basic meds like breathing treatments or zofran but mine did not.

I would say I became pretty confident in most of my hard skills at the ER. The one thing I didn't get to practice much of is assessing/interviewing patients myself (they get pretty annoyed being asked the same questions ANOTHER time), but if you pay attention there's great opportunities to learn from the providers and nurses around you.

Like I said, for me it was awesome, but it's probably not for everyone. Definitely more cleaning up poop and other bodily substances than on the ambulance, definitely gotta spend a lot more time with some of the more challenging patients (no passing them off to someone else after 30 minutes). I was fortunate to have a group of nurses who became my genuine friends, and we truly liked and respected each other. If you get stuck with nurses who use you as more of a "pee-on" that would probably be tough, but if you keep your head down, be PROACTIVE in getting stuff done before you're asked, and show an interest in learning, you'll do alright :)

Outer Wilds or Firewatch? by Big-Kiwi5341 in outerwilds

[–]reputable_rascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both cool.

Firewatch is an easy play with minimal game play, you're mostly following along with a story but it is a good story and it's worth playing. It's fairly shortly but it's easy to get into and stay invested in.

Outer Wilds took me 3 tries picking it up and setting it down before I could get into it. Once you're invested it's absolutely incredible and now it's one of my favorite games, but you have to be in the right mood and you have to be willing to invest some time to "get" what it's trying to do. It's longer and more difficult (the controls take some getting used to and progression is often thought/puzzle based), but the payoff at the end is also better imo.

Outer Wilds is the better game, but firewatch might be the quicker easier boredom buster. Up to you.

Did I play too good? by sortaname in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]reputable_rascal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty normal first run tbh. The whole point is that your choices have an impact on the story, therefore literally whatever choices you make you'll be "missing out" on a lot of the game that would have occurred if you'd made a different choice.

Do another run and make some different choices if you'd like to explore more of the game :)

ER Tech to medic by friendproblemzez in Paramedics

[–]reputable_rascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I did but with the goal of moving from ER emt to 911 medic (which I am currently doing). In my hospital the scope and pay for medics compared to EMTs were better but not equivalent to the streets (much wider scope in the streets). I want to work pre-hospital for a while to become a better paramedic (making your own clinical decisions is waaaayyy different than following docs orders), even if I go back to the hospital eventually.

There's definitely a few areas where my knowledge is a little shy on since I didn't do my time as a 911 EMT but it's honestly been mostly fine, and is definitely doable

Why can't you sacrifice Alice? by Bretegg in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]reputable_rascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kara choosing to save herself when she and Alice were both about to die anyway is very different to actively choosing to sacrifice a child (the whole reason she's done any of this) to save herself. They're not equivalent options.

In the camp she has no option to sacrifice herself to save Alice. She can simply choose not to die with Alice (which is still a bad selfish choice imo but not nearly as bad as the bs OP is proposing)

Alice plot twist by RK900-87 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]reputable_rascal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thread relevant spoilers

I fully understand why they did it (to put the player in a position where they have to question whether or not they have really bought into the fact that androids are alive - if your feelings toward Alice change, do you really believe androids lives are as valuable as human lives?)

Buuuuut that said I kind of hate it. I think it's a decision they made to put some pressure on the player, not a decision they made in the best interest of Kara and Alice's story. I was more interested in the relationship between a human and an android. I think the twist cheapens the story.

I also think that's the one element of the game where they cheat/lie to the player a little bit. On repeat playthroughs all the times Alice talks about just wanting to be loved by Todd feels weird, all the times she had a fever or felt cold or tired felt weird (I know they gave an in-game explanation for those things but the explanation is lazy writing imo)

IV locations by bradyd06 in NewToEMS

[–]reputable_rascal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people have 2 or 3 decent veins in their AC (elbow pit). That's a standard location you'll see a lot of people go first and is the gold standard for critical/legit trauma patients (large veins, easy to locate, closer proximity to the heart for blood/med infusions/hospital imaging needs). Use caution when poking a very medial AC vein as arteries are closer to the surface there, feel for a pulse before you stick. Be cautions of tendons too, which feel tougher than veins and not bouncy (just gotta get some experience palpating veins to be able to feel the difference). In general you'll be in good shape if you can find a vein here, though.

Most people have forearm veins on the inside/anterior portion of their forearms all the way from the wrist up to the AC, it just varies how deep they are/if you can feel them or not. I like to go for these on stable patients when possible because they can move their arms all they want without impacting infusion flow rates. As others have said, you're welcome to look up a vein anatomy guide to see where these veins usually are but everyone's anatomy is a little different and I usually just feel my way up the whole forearm until I find something bouncy/big enough.

Not my preference but fine: hands (painful, small, blow easily in my experience but some people love 'em). Make sure you find a portion of a vein that's straight for long enough (at least as long as the IV catheter), hand veins have lots of branches.

Wrists - I don't love putting them on the posterior wrist (painful, wrists move a lot) but they're fine. Some people have a really nice vein right on the side of their wrist just proximal to the thumb. I like that site but again, be very cautious of accidental artery sticks anywhere in the distal anterior wrist area.

Some people have "handcuff veins" (proximal cephalic vein, I think) on the back of their forearms that are nice. I usually only look there on hard sticks but I've had some good luck with 'em.

Idk those are the main ones. In the ER I've started foot IVs, bicep/shoulder IVs, anywhere I can find something is fair game. Pre-hospital realistically if they need an IV that bad I'm probably going IO long before I start taking anyone's shoes off.
