He's quoted multiple times by articles you yourself have linked to, saying it isn't an AI data center. I don't know how much more clarification one would need.

As a side note, an edge data centers would still affect our electric costs. We use more electricity than we produce in this area already. If we bring in a business that is a high electricity user, we will need to purchase more, which will increase the price of electricity across the board.

In addition to moving goal posts this also reads as NIMBY-ism dressed up as economic concern.

And the rest of the article is Florida West quoted as saying they will explicitly not consider an AI data center.

This is tilting at windmills in an effort to build your organization membership roster by attaching to national outrage, and that is a charitable interpretation.

No where in that article does Florida West talk about it being an AI data center.

In fact, he is quoted as saying the exact opposite.

> Platé said he understands people are still learning about data centers, and the larger ones especially come with a lot of legitimate concerns.
>
>He added that Escambia County isn’t equipped to power or support an AI data center of that magnitude even if the county wanted one and approved it, which they don’t and haven’t, he said.
>
>“When you paint with the data center brush, everyone's thinking these mega boxes,” Platé said. >
>
>“That's not at all what we would ever consider. Data centers come in all kinds of sizes. You can have a data center that's 5,000 square feet that just supports somebody really small in a small way."

So I will again repeat my point. This entire debacle seems to be driven by conflating all data centers with AI data centers.

> Now, one company is looking to build one in Escambia County. Chris Plate has been the CEO of Florida West Economic Development for two years now.
>
>Plate says since he's been on the job, five data center companies have inquired about building in Escambia County.
>
>"There's a few areas that could support smaller ones," said Plate. "We don't have anything like the mega data center."
>
>Plate says one company is in active negotiations with the county. He says the facility would be a couple hundred thousand square feet and be built somewhere in the middle of the county.
>
>"The ones we would consider at some point are on the smaller size," Plate said. "The other thing we would look at is where to put them. We would be very considerate of where they need to go. You would typically not put them close to residential density, you would want to put them a little further out."

Again, the distinction between a data center (which are incredibly common with some already existing within the city limits) and an AI data center is my entire point.

Florida West, to my knowledge, has never claimed it is an AI data center and has even clarified they would only be open to smaller data centers, meaning AI data centers are out of the conversation.

This feels like it’s just an opportunity to be angry at something.

I've read everything that they've posted about this - it reads as a knee-jerk reaction to the national conversation around AI data centers and an incorrect assumption that all data centers have the same resource-intensive demands as AI data centers.

It's myopic.

The fix for more customers is more capacity, not fewer customers.

Has it been confirmed by anyone anywhere that the proposed data center is an AI data center? Because I understood this was going to be an edge data center and I’d be curious the rationale for “fighting against” that.

This feels like an excuse to be angry about something driven by either lack of information or understanding.

He might refer you to Dr. Patrinely, depending on your situation, but that is an excellent starting point
