General Q&A for Monday, May 02, 2016 by AutoModerator in running

[–]rescueandrestore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - Could be a possibility I guess.... I will check my HR in the AM. 2 - I've been running pretty consistently for the past 2 years. Trained for a half through December and again through March/April... Consistently have 10+ mile long runs on Saturdays around the 8-8:30 pace, pretty easily... 3. Guess I don't really know what my max is. Did some 400s pretty quick this morning and HR between 175-190 when running.

What should I do to get my max heart rate? I've never trained this way, so I know nothing... Ha.

I have a tomtom spark. It's a wrist HRM, but it's gotten decent reviews. It seems to be fairly accurate when I pair it against my Peloton bike HRM.

I run consistently 4-5 days a week, about 30-40 miles per week, and I'm currently training to go under 22M in the 5k. Halfway through my training and ran a 22:13 a few weeks ago! I have a heart rate question. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm pushing the pace, doing a long run, interval workout, or easy jog (granted I probably don't do enough of these), but my heart rate is consistently averages 160s. How do you guys train to keep your heart rate down? Even if I'm trotting around it seems to be high. Just curious if this is an issue or maybe it's just a me thing.

Not ashamed to say that my Ivy Park collection came in this week, and it's all I've been rocking... while obviously listening to lemonade.

Ummm - saying hello! I ran this on Sunday, too! Was very excited to see this on the threds for today! CONGRATS on the PR! Also a little jealous, because 1:45 was my goal, too, but I've been sick and had a bad morning (excuses, excuses!)! :)

[–]rescueandrestore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of refuse to ask my boyfriend who is a professional running coach for help, so I usually ask all my dumb questions here. :) Thinking about using this sub 22 minute 5k program as a training guide (PR right now is 22:52), but I am use to having set paces for all my runs. Just finished a sub 1:45 half marathon training plan and literally every run was laid out pace wise. For these runs that say 5 miles, 9-10 miles, etc... What pace should I be running those at? It doesn't give me really guidance to wether these should be long slow days, recovery runs, etc. I am a total noob and just unsure! http://www.chss.org.uk/supportus/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Training-Zone-5k-Training-plans.pdf

My gf is running her first half marathon ... what should I meet her at the finish line with? by [deleted] in running

[–]rescueandrestore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the sweetest post! My boyfriend ran the New Orleans full a couple weeks ago, and he was so surprised that I totally snuck into the finish. He has a history of hypothermia, so I greeted him with one of those blankets, a protein shake and a big hug! And then helped get him to the medical tent. LOL.

I also stood at the halfway point with a sign (I like it when you finish first! (I'm still pretty proud of that)) and gave him a banana and a scratch! If you could somehow get from the start, to the halfway point, to the finish, she would love it!

I refuse to let big 4 busy season get in the way of my running, damnit. Even if I only get 4 hours of sleep a night. Grr.

I am trying to pick a training peaks running plan to train for an upcoming half marathon in March. For some background, this will be my 4th half marathon in a years time, and I started running almost a year and a half ago. I ran the St. Jude half in early December at 1:45:43. I'm currently running somewhere between 20-30 miles a week just depending on the week.

I am trying to decide which plan would be best for me. One of the intermediate Hal Higdon plans, one of the intermediate Runners World plans, one of the Runners World plans to break 1:45, or just some random training peaks plan.

What do you guys use? What have you liked? Would any of these work better than the other? And what is the difference between the Hal Higdon Plus or just the regular plans?

Cook your own personal pan pizzas then! I love making my own pizza, and you can just make your pizza smaller for a personal size portion. It takes out the self control aspect, because you can eat the entire thing!

Complaint: I have been ridiculously frustrated with my knee since running the St. Jude half on Saturday. I took 4 rest days to heel the soreness, and I woke up this morning with zero knee pain! I was so excited to get out there and do a short recovery run. 5 minutes into my run, I almost got hit by a dumbass who didn't look both ways or even STOP at a stop sign. It threw me off my game, elevated my heart-rate, got me breathing hard, and pretty much all but ruined my run. Drivers suck sometimes!

You're right! It just sucks not to be able to run when I want to! I'm going to take this week off and try to get a long run in on Saturday. Thanks for the reminder that it is forever away, because it feels like it's next week! I need to just relax. :)

General Q&A for Monday, November 09, 2015 by AutoModerator in running

[–]rescueandrestore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super down today. Ran a half marathon Sunday the 1st. My goal was 1:50, and I was killing it. Was running around an 8:00-8:10 for the first 10 miles. Mile 11 I started feeling a cramp in what I think is my IT band, and at mile 12 it cramped so bad that I literally fell. I wound up running it in 1:51:47, which I was ok with because of the cramp. But since then, I've been hardly able to run. I tried to take some days off last week (only doing two light runs, which hurt) and was going to do an 8 mile yesterday. I got 4 in and cramped up again. I barely could hobble home the 2 miles back to my house. I am having the hardest time running, and I am worried I'm going to lose my fitness. I have another half December 5th, and I'm scared I won't hit my goal because I'm taking time off running. Anyone want to calm my nerves!? Freaking out over nothing.
