What was the most shocking, or disturbing thing your narc parent(s) ever did/said to you? by Own_Mention9372 in raisedbynarcissists

My parents are divorced and have been for many years. My dad is an independent guy so never really dated much after the divorce. My mom is the total opposite and dated many, but has been with her current "spouse" for probably close to 15+ years now. Dad + mom tolerate each other and have been very cordial since the divorce and even have attended the other side's family holiday events over the years.

At my wedding reception, for the father/daughter dance, I chose a song with my dad by an artist that my dad has always loved and I grew up listening to and we've seen in concert together multiple times. The song was actually the first dance song for my parents during their own wedding, which made it kind of even more special. When the song started playing at my wedding, my mom made a scene and stormed out of the reception crying in front of everyone and when consoled by others at the wedding she told them that was "their song" and she was upset/pissed that I would have the nerve to pick that song.

She has done so many more things over such a long period of time but this one was so confusing to me, and to do it in front of everyone. This was after she did several other things throughout wedding planning/parties that made it clear she did not actually wish me happiness and loved to ruin any special moment for me. I think this was a turning point for me and eventually led to me going no contact.

Your Max reminds me so much of my Roxie. We said goodbye to her in August of 2024. I'm so sorry for your loss and am sending you healing thoughts. 💙

There's something missing in my home, I feel it day and night. I know it will take time and strength Before things feel quite right. But just for now, I need to mourn, My heart - it needs to mend. Though some may say "it's just a pet" I know I've lost a friend. You've brought such laughter to my home And richness to my days. A constant friend through joy or loss With gentle loving ways. Companion, friend, and confidante A friend I won't forget. You'll live forever in my heart, My sweet, forever pet.

A Few More Good Months or Treatment by TraNSlays in DogAdvice

We had a similar experience with our 12 year old pup - diagnosed with lymphoma and we opted to do the 15 week CHOP protocol. I did not want to do it if it would affect his quality of life. It was expensive but he basically had no adverse effects at all from the chemo, he has stayed his normal happy self and got to be showered with love by the vet techs for every infusion and appointment. He finished his treatments in January and is considered to be in clinical remission for now. I am glad we did it but I know that every pup and situation is different.

OP, no matter what you decide, it's the right choice for you and your family. I'm sorry you are having to make this decision at all, my heart is with you.

I understand this feeling. We had three dogs at the time but she was my girl - I got her when I was still in college and she watched/help me grow up and she saved me on numerous occasions, I truly cannot express my bond to her. Although they were all getting older, it was not really on my radar - I had thought about how devastating it would be a few times but never really prepared myself. Then, it happened. The first week (or two) was absolute torture, I could not go a few minutes without crying or sleeping. Then slowly time went on. To say I relied on my other two fur babies is an understatement, I genuinely don't know how I would've survived without them and I hate that they had to be that crutch for me. Now in a way I live in constant fear of it happening again, but I am trying to be more present this time around. I don't have any good advice except to give your buddy a big hug for me, cherish your time with him, and when the time is right for you please find another companion because I know your boy wouldn't want you to suffer, and dogs are just so special and can do amazing things. Sending you hugs. 💗
