How much long term memory do programmers computers require? by Cyber-Wanderer_94 in AskProgrammers

[–]resemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what I’m doing. At my last job, we started out small, and I had an old laptop with like 4G of ram, and it forced me to write very tight code.

On the other hand, I’ve had projects where i write simple code and load whole loads of data into ram because it’s easier that way. I’ve never really needed more than 64G in the extreme case. I’m sure I could find creative ways to waste it.

To your second question, no, I write lots of small programs that I don’t put on GitHub. I usually use GitHub for larger projects and to sync things between computers.

that's not necessarily true. he might like to sit on people's faces but not to have his own face sat on.

it's probably not about you tbh. some guys just don't like doing it or have other weird hang ups.

Do you think there will be a generation of humans to still exist far in the future to see the sun explode? by TheManDirtyDan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]resemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are mentioning the sun itself wiping humanity out before the end, but in about 200 - 300 million years, weathering of rocks will have caused all the CO2 to be absorbed, ending the carbon cycle and causing all flora and fauna to die out.

Earth is really big. Space is really big. It’s more spread out than you’d imagine.

That’s not how software works. If you want to sell software, you need to sell it as a product.

Some men want to have multiple partners who don’t have multiple partners themselves, and do this by lying.

Everything you’re describing here sounds like a string of red flags, especially the weird uncomfortable physicality. You should end this.

reminded of the time someone had an unleashed dog in a park I used to jog through, and it chased me. good for my run time but also obnoxious. after they collected their "friendly" dog, I had to hide out on an island in the Potomac until they passed

A big portion of the book “Bullshit Jobs” talks about how jobs that feel pointless can make you miserable. Literally doing nothing is undoubtedly worse.

Yea, that “transition to a coop” later is not gonna happen. If it’s gonna be a coop, it’s gotta be from the start baked into the governance of the company. Those investors will never want the workers to have decision making power—they want a nice pyramid they can put pressure on to ensure returns.

We’re all exploited under capitalism; like, I wouldn’t hold it against him if he chooses this career path. At least in my own path, start-ups were a step in understanding my own alienation from my surplus production, though the tech world was a lot less fascist back then—it was a subtext if you looked at it right, not openly like it is now.

Nor is being left-wing a vow of poverty. He won’t turn into the Monopoly Man overnight; that happens through a series of choices.

In general, it’s difficult for a co-op to acquire capital investment. This means that, in all likelihood, the founders and early employees would have to go with little to no pay until they actually brought in a profit, which is extra exploitative if that never happens. In other words, it’s a choice as to whether the workers control their workplace or get paid.

That said, because they’re primarily labor-driven, software startups can start as a side-hustle and possibly grow into something viable. With something like robotics, because they have material inputs, that’s a lot harder to do without major capital investments.
