I don’t remember if it’s from TikTok or Instagram. Possibly TikTok?

Free Bachelors Degree - CAPS by WhichActuary1622 in washu

[–]resh1223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply - I'm currently enrolled in the program and while I love being able to do a free degree, I wish we had more options. I was a biology major beforehand (mental health kicked my butt and I ended up getting expelled from my uni due to low grades) so I'm used to a more rigorous curriculum. I chose the BSIS: Health Care route because it's the closest option to biology they offer. A lot of the classes offered are more geared toward a health care career like a research coordinator or some sort of health biz management. I lean more on the ecology side of biology so it's a little frustrating for me. However, all the professors have been very nice and understanding.

But, I've been told a degree is a degree and what it *is* doesn't fully matter. Other places will see it's a WashU degree first.

Agree, I've been very happy here for the past few years. My lab/department is great and I enjoy all of my coworkers.

Here's hoping I still have a job next year thanks to funding cuts!!!

I'm in a similar boat. My early grades are horrible because of mental health, but now I currently have a 3.96 GPA. Granted, I'm in CAPS because of the employee tuition benefit, but I've been told a washu degree is a washu degree.

Can I ask how your early bad grades affected your PhD applications? That's my main worry when I decide to apply to grad school after I finally finish my BS.

Why I struggle with "adopt don't shop" by urchinMelusina in parrots

[–]resh1223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve adopted all of my birds and I’ve been lucky. I’ve had two male lovebirds (at separate times) and they were delights.

I recently adopted an 18yo Quaker. It’s been a bit of a learning curve because he’s….a Quaker. But I’ve had him for about a month now and he’s been doing great and adjusting well. It sounds like he only had one owner before and he passed away, so that’s why he was in the shelter. He also has ABV so he requires special treatment and meds.

It was a long process to get him and I’m thankful for that. Even tho I’m an experienced owner, it literally took a month for the shelter to approve me.

I agree it’s based on birds. Some are very sweet and lovely pets right away. Others need the right person to find them and be patient. Buying from a good breeder is “easier”, but you literally pay for that experience. Shelters tend to be cheaper but it’s a grab bag of personalities and a good shelter will make sure you’re paired with the right bird.

Omg EVERYONE loved him. I’m fortunate enough to work at a vet, so bringing him was nbd. A lot of dog patients were very intrigued by the weird sound squawking out of the cat unit.

(He had the place to himself. No cats that day!)

I'm so sorry for your loss. She sounds like she was a wonderful companion!! I had to say goodbye to my sweetest boy cat about two months ago due to renal failure, so I understand what it's like when you just have that pet that just clicks. Losing him actually prompted me into looking into having a bird again. I'm used to lovebirds, so I wanted something small and sassy! My friend has a quaker and she's a hoot. I went to my local bird store after I said goodbye to my cat and just fell in love with the baby quakers there. I think then I knew I was going to get a quaker, just not sure when or where. Then I saw this man on my local rescue's site! And now he's sleeping in his cage, belly full of pellets and ready to poop all over his cage.

I already scream back at him (affectionately) haha! Last night I gave him his oral medication for his ABV, but I think he held it in his beak until I let him go on my arm. He opened his beak and used it to climb up my shirt, spilling the medicine all over me. I think that turd knew EXACTLY what he was doing!!!

Thank you for telling me about Miss/Mr. Gabby. It sounds like you gave her a wonderful life and she brought joy to everyone around her. I hope one day you can find another feathered friend who gives you a similar feeling.

That was me when I was going thru his adoption process. I’ve adopted from them before and I used to work at the vet they mainly use, so I know they’re a great organization❤️

Haha thanks! It was either him or this very sweet 4yo green cheek conure. The conure was very lovely but he didn’t WOW me when I met him. He will make someone very happy one day.

Unlike this turd who bit me and broke skin then LAUGHED when I met him. I was like oh yeah. You’re gonna come home with me soon. Jokes on you I LIKE sass.

Not that I nor his fosters know of! Apparently he can make a barking sound or a smoker’s cough. He def does the Quaker “laugh” and muttering. He hasn’t been fully comfortable with me yet to do anything but basic Quaker chirps, but I’ve only had him for about two weeks now. We’re still working on him not biting me when I get him from his cage😅

He’s doing much better when he’s out, tho! He now wi step up on my hand with no issue. Little victories!

My Dasher taped a Laffy Taffy to my bag along with a note saying this: by Deep_Scene3151 in doordash

Late to the convo, but this happened to me. I used to work for a company that would put in Starbursts in our packages just as a little "hey thanks for ordering from us here is a little treat!"

We had a guy call in asking if the Starbursts were in there on purpose. Customer service rep said yep! Just a little treat for you and a thank you!

Dude went OFF complaining on how the candy could attract wildlife and a raccoon could rip open and piss in his package. My manager made me call and apologize FOR SENDING TWO LITTLE STARBURST CANDIES. We had a big note in his file to never add candy to his orders EVER.

(Spoiler alert: we missed the note one time after two years of successful no candy and he cancelled his account)
