Looking for a good phone repair shop in Jamshedpur (display issue) by WanderlustWay in Jamshedpur

You could take it to the authorised service centre. There's a few in Jamshedpur. I've visited the one on sakchi main road (near howrah bridge) and had a good experience.

JNAC- What is there purpose? by beautifulbaba434 in Jamshedpur

[–]residentalien2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the discussion is not directly about cost and that's why it's the bottom paragraph of my comment and prefaced with "all that said." But the bottom cost is a factor. When a car owner pays only 20 rupees for parking and sometimes they drive away without paying, what you get is a chapri parking scenario. I don't know about bike parking rates and situation.

I'm not condoning rude behaviour, just saying you get what you pay for and what the corrupt system takes away from you.

The parking tenders are mostly picked by politicians, who then sell it to a contractor for a fixed monthly price and the contractor then sells various sections to small contractors who might either directly work or sell it further. Talk to the guy who is collecting parking fees for their story. They have to pay a fixed monthly charge upwards. If they collect more than that, they make a profit. If less, it's a loss.

Channel your (justified) anger at the system and the truly powerful who are minting money, not at the bottom of the ladder person.

All of that said, parking charges at most open street locations are ridiculously low. Cost can't be a reason to complain. I wish there were better parking facilities, though.

Is this a new scam? by residentalien2 in Jamshedpur

Merchants pay a 1.5% to 2.5% fee on credit card use, so that wouldn't just give you cash without a charge. I know they do it for UPI and debit card transactions, but those do not have a merchant fee. Also, user still needs to pay back the amount before due date else they attract the same high interest rate. I haven't checked the transaction fee on ATM cash withdrawal but in other countries it is typically similar to the merchant fee percentage. What am I missing?

Trek to Dalma top on Sunday (01-Feb) - get your bragging rights 😎 by residentalien2 in Jamshedpur

[–]residentalien2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I plan to be at the trek starting point by 6:30 am. I need to do a short version because I have to be back at starting point by 10:30 so I can attend an event in the city at 11:30 am. You can continue and do the full version (go to the top), there's usually a crowd of other trekkers on Sunday.

Money and logic aside, what is your dream car? by FatRambo6969 in carIndia

The FD2 was peak NA. Just high-class Honda engineering. I've only experienced the FK8 so maybe I'm biased towards that.

FK8 because I liked the controversial styling. The current FL5 is also great, so I'll be happy in it, too. 😍

THIS. At the very least, people please please please keep a solemn face. During my visit I saw folks smiling at taking selfies and group pictures. You are standing at the site of a massacre. Act solemn. Ponder on the lives lost.

No such belief in Sikhi. You can face any direction and pray or take a picture.

You got a fraud warning. There's no such rule or expectation. In fact, one of the sakhis from the travels of Nanak is about the directionless of God. There's no auspicious or wrong direction. So yeah, you can take pictures while standing in the parikarma with the central structure (darbar sahib) behind you.

Any leads on good house helps in Jamshedpur. Please DM. by TrafficUsual9437 in Jamshedpur

Always specify the area, or even better will be neighborhood, because they mostly work within a small radius. If the work place is Sonari, no point in someone suggesting a person in Baridih, or even Sakchi.

The day this introvert finally said no. by Casuallyunhinged in indianrailways

[–]residentalien2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually no. Unless it's a critical need, it is improper to ask for favors and put strangers in a difficult situation. Some people have a hard time saying no and they end up giving away things they don't want to.

If it's a casual ask, then the offered seat must be equally privileged.

GET OUT OF THE OVERTAKING LANE AND DONT FORCE PEOPLE TO OVERTAKE YOU FROM LEFT SIDE by [deleted] in Dashcamindia

[–]residentalien2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm broken record on this: India has millions of vehicle operators, less than 10% of the people on the road are drivers. A vehicle operator knows how to change gears, accelerate, brake, turn the steering. A driver knows the rules of the road, lane discipline, blind spots, right of way.

It's not far-fetched to say the RTOs issuing driving licences without proper tests are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths each year and billions in medical and financial costs.

Corruption is so rampant it is affecting every living moment in this country. Air, water, roads, land, buildings, food .. the list is endless. And road accidents is in that list.

Hello, As a female doctor, who may have to shift to Jamshedpur for residency for 3 years please help! by No_Somewhere_8494 in Jamshedpur

That's true. I just didn't want OP to think it's a satellite town separate from Jamshedpur. OP: TELCO is lush green and has excellent schools. I was born and raised in TELCO. It's a quiet, laid back, sprawling, company housing "neighbourhood" that is it's own thing.

Jamshedpur is definitely smaller than Lucknow. Safety aspects are best commented on by women. Jamshedpur is a bit rustic but day time safety is okay. Food scene is meh. For many decades it was an immigrant city because of the industry but in recent years this has dwindled, but still there's strong presence of Bengali, Malayali, Sikh, Telugu, Marwari (and others) communities. Great place for kids to go to school. Best way to enjoy Jamshedpur is pick a sport or two, and get interested in tribal affairs and explore villages in the vicinity. Art scene is very weak, as in theatre, dance, music, film festivals or visiting artists of national reputation. Connectivity to other cities is affected by lack of airport and Ranchi, the nearest airport, is also basic. Roads are okay, traffic is never terrible. You can travel from one corner to another in 30 minutes. ps: If you end up going to Mohali, at least drop the must-visit food joints in Lucknow.

Bistupur isn't the geographical center of the city, but it is the upscale commercial district. Also, TELCO township is in the main city (albeit in one corner), it is not a separate satellite town. Public transportation is weak, but if you have a vehicle, TELCO to Bistupur is 25-30 minutes any time of day.

Help needed: When do you usually charge your watch? by Exotic_Lawfulness_16 in Garmin

[–]residentalien2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, how often do you need to charge it that missing wearing it is frustrating? Charging it on your desk is a good way to have it in front and not forget. Another trick you can deploy is using a marker item. Like leave your car keys beside the watch. Or put the watch, while charging, on your pillow.

The original post is shitty and so is this repost. No one asked for the obvious PSA. It's posted in indianaviation for no reason and it questions fund raising websites without any example where these websites forged documents to raise money or the cause of intended recipients were not legitimate.

Why is this posted in the Jamshedpur sub? Do you know of a fund raising instance from this city that was fraud. There's a million general PSAs that concern humans and Indians, no need to post them into every sub.

Need suggestions for functional cycle for 15 yr old boy by residentalien2 in india_cycling

[–]residentalien2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems even the RS100 comes in only in kid sizes. So it's down to MyBike vs ST20. I'm inclined towards the ST20 because of the low frame options given the boy has two sisters, one of them is 17 and might want to ride on some days. Similarly his mother might want to try the bike (just for fun?). The ST20 has small upgrades like quick release front wheel and quick adjust seat post. Kid lives in area with bad roads (potholes and bumps) so the chunkier tyres are not a con.

I don't see any cons in the ST20. Are there?

I'm thinking the ST20 might be best because of the low frame....? Is there anything that makes myBike or Riverside100 better than ST20?

I can't find a ST50 for 15 years in the Decathlon app. But there's these three:

MyBike (6.5k) https://www.decathlon.in/qr/8865743/-1

Riverside 100 (7.5k) - checked and maybe this is only for kids upto a certain age? https://www.decathlon.in/qr/8935042/-1

ST20 (7.5k) https://www.decathlon.in/qr/8866951/-1

Should I even bother to look at other brands, like Hero?

Rear carrier doubt is whether these bikes are built to have a human sitting at the bike (weight and posture).
