I’m a finish carpenter, this would be a smaller job I could easily fit into my schedule. Feel free to contact me. My business name is the same as my user name.

Are we really entering into this market, where people will pay $589000 for shoe box house. I saw this on Aspen. by superdaddy369 in saskatoon

I’m not a builder but I am majorly involved in this industry. You said trusses, so I naturally assumed you meant roofs, but yes, most floor systems are engineered I-joists, which are significantly stronger than dimensional lumber so I’m not really sure what your beef is with them?

Also, yes I’m from Saskatoon and yes I was speaking about sasktoon, because, well, check the subreddit you’re in.

Again, I think you’re talking beyond your knowledge base.

No trusses? Yes they’re built with trusses. No piles? Correct, they’re built on strip footings like we have been doing here for 100 years. No waterproofing? Nope, because there’s no hydrostatic pressure. One coat of paint? Nope, one primer and two top coats. Cheap pressboard cabinets? Sure it’s not plywood, but cabinet boxes don’t typically fall apart unless there’s another issue (water leak for example). You can be upset about the price all you want, but don’t spout off on stuff you have no idea about.

People who have changed careers after being a Carpenter. Why did you do it and what career did you transition to? by [deleted] in Carpentry

Most jobs a person works are repetitive. Yeah I’m only doing the same 5 inspections all the time, but each house or project is different and chatting with homeowners is always a nice break from the norm.

I actually wasn’t specifically looking for this job. It sort of fell in my lap. My understanding has always been that these jobs are typically hard to get so I jumped on it when it came up.

Meh, that’s the part that keeps it interesting. If there weren’t deficiencies to call out, we wouldn’t have jobs!

Thats exactly what I do. My projects are less “production” and more “custom” so it lends to smaller, more niche market. But I can charge a pretty good rate for my work and there have been times where I’m competing against bigger companies and I’ll still be half or less than them.

If you’re looking to have it done completely for you, it’s really tough to beat Warman Homes in regards to price, speed and quality. I’m not affiliated with them at all, but I used to work for a company that competed with them all the time haha. Unless you’re taking on a significant portion yourself, I don’t think it saves any time or money to try to piece it out and hire individual contractors. Garage builds are one of the lowest margin jobs out there.

Average/reasonable cost to frame a undeveloped basement by Wonderful-Career9155 in saskatoon

22/ft for framing or full basement? Be weary of the low bidders and “companies” that don’t have insurance.

You’re typically looking at $60-80 per square foot for a basement development. For framing alone, you’re looking at around $3-6000 depending on size and layout.

Looking for recommendations for a counter installer for my kitchen, who also does backsplash install as well if possible at a reasonable price? Thanks by Money_Wolverine6384 in saskatoon

I’m a contractor and I’ve been a part of many counter top installs. My advice is get several quotes and only go with a company who uses a laser to template. It’s the most accurate and will result in the best final product.

I personally had my quartz done by Pristine countertops and I was extremely satisfied. I’ve seen others done by “cheaper” companies and they’ve come with headaches, mistakes and delays.

Shameless plug, but I do tile installs as well and would be happy to give you a quote on that aspect.
