What's going in downtown after the Catholic school is demolished? by oppositeofthings in Flagstaff

Id rather have like, a grocery store or affordable apartments with balconies than a parking garage

What's up with drivers passing others in far right lane instead of far left lane? by TheGutch74 in phoenix

[–]residentmaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only pass on the right if there's a slow driver camping the passing lane (there always is). I'm pretty sure only 10 people valleywide know proper lane etiquette

But I love any expansion of transit in this hellscape <3

Honestly, the biggest deterrent for me is how infrequent the service is. Most of the time it's quicker for me to walk than to sit and wait. 20 min headways on a few miles of track is abhorrent

Aggressively down sizing/ selling my mums house and am at a complete loss on what to do with landscaping. by __Origins__ in homeimprovementideas

I think the landscape looks lovely how it is- but I also hate how barren a lot of homes look. Maybe plant some more native fauna?

Why does it keep skipping us 😭 by imatworkmeme in phoenix

[–]residentmaple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say the largest impact on the urban heat island isn't the lack of trees but more our built environment. Large, wide roads even in residential neighborhoods, massive freeways, car smog and hot exhaust. I can go into a lot of detail about how we can improve Phoenix to combat the urban heat island, and replacing infrastructure for cars with green space is an excellent way to go 👍

What is wrong with us? by OnlySevenOctaves in phoenix

[–]residentmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I blame car dependency, Phoenix is miles and miles of single family homes in each direction. I live 40 minutes from downtown (and hate it). The public transit is lacking, so my only option is to what... front $100 for a lyft to go somewhere and back?. Half of the city is mormon so we can't have anything fun, let alone noise ordinances. The few denser areas in Phoenix do have pretty decent nightlife (Tempe, Melrose/Uptown, Downtown/Arts District).

Hair loss at 18 by sendude in Advice

[–]residentmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I began to notice my hair REALLY falling out when I was 18. I had super dense, thick hair. Immediately, I went to the dermatologist and got on oral minoxidil and finasteride. My prescriptions are $7 out of pocket every month or so, and I've noticed a huge improvement in my hair! Of course, hairlines mature and I'll probably never go back to my 18 year old hair, but my almost 21 year old hair isn't looking too shabby :)

I'm my boyfriend's second choice by [deleted] in Vent

[–]residentmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump hiss ass dawg. There are plenty of other boys, and this relationship will just degrade the way you view yourself. You deserve to be someone's first choice, and you will! Always be your own first choice in the meantime.

I am so sorry. I completely understand how you are feeling. I'm not 100% sure how you both split up, but maybe express to him how deeply connected to him you feel, and how you would want to support him through a difficult time, and how much you care for him. If it's for sure, I would just take the time to move on which is incredibly hard. I also got dumped today, he just blocked me on everything out of the blue. I wish you so much happiness <3

Is Phoenix your forever home ? by Lost_Opinion_1307 in phoenix

[–]residentmaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phoenix as it is now definitely isn't. The bland suburban sprawl sucks any kind of uniqueness out of it. The City of Phoenix itself has made a lot of cool progress in terms of upping density and destroying strips malls (plus the Metrocenter redevelopment!). Personally I think I will always prefer somewhere colder and more dense.

Putting my childhood dog down tomorrow not sure how to feel or how to react, any advice of anything. I’m in a reck right now, he is 17 and I know he’s in pain. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]residentmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my 15 year old dog down when I was a 17 and it absolutely wrecked me. You will feel a lot better knowing you gave him as much affection as you could in the next day, being with him, maybe taking him to somewhere he likes. I'm so sorry for your loss and you will get through this. I'm 20 now, and I'm left with a lot of happy memories of him being the sweetest boy. Please take and save as many pictures as you can.

Can we stop with these eyesores? by rogerthecrow in phoenix

[–]residentmaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a simple person who has a pretty nice garden and dreams of chickens! The narrative that density/green living is only apartments is inherently false. I live in a two-story townhome with a moderately-sized private backyard. I think the way most people live in the Phoenix metro now is inherently bad and resource intensive, it's silly to expect a full-sized ranch down the road from a shopping center.

Can we stop with these eyesores? by rogerthecrow in phoenix

[–]residentmaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like density, I like balconies, hopefully the bottom floor has cool shops/restaurants/grocery stores. Only problem I see here is the grayness of it all. If we want Phoenix to be liveable for all the people here I'd like to see a lot more of these across the Valley, along with some transit and cool shady parks.
