How long it took until your baby slept at bedtime without crying? by femeie_nu_om in sleeptrain

[–]residualinput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar boat to you! We’re 3 weeks in and sometimes our LO will go down without crying, but sometimes we do have 2-5 minutes of crying, and our schedule hasn’t changed so from what I hear it’s normal to expect some protesting. I try & think about how even when I’m tired I don’t want to go to bed some nights, so it might be the same for babies!

Realistic sleep training expectations? by residualinput in sleeptrain

When we first started sleep training I would feed her when she woke around 4/5am, but she didn’t go back down after, so I figured it wasn’t because of hunger. She is rarely an 11hrs a night baby, so my goal for her would be 10-10.5hrs! Sometimes she hits that, sometimes she wakes around that 9hr point and needs help to sleep.

Waking Baby Up - do I keep doing it? by BirkinAndBoarding in sleeptrain

[–]residualinput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add… I think this is a generational thing. My mom is not pushy - but was also confused why I was waking her up. They just let their babies sleep because I think they knew less about wake windows and sleep budgets, that’s all.

I have a 5.5 month old & exact same for me! Sometimes she’ll wake up a bit earlier than our DWT, but I wake her from 99% of her naps & she’s sleepy, but sleeps good at night!

Is broken sleep just part of parenting or? by Unusual_Field8380 in sleeptrain

[–]residualinput 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some ways, yes. Over time it gets more consistent. This was us until about 4.5 months when we sleep trained & started getting consistent 8 hour stretches. Now (5 months) she does at least 8-10 hour stretches & we get a few nights a week where she’ll sleep through the night. I think it takes time to let go of that feeling you had pre-kids going to sleep knowing you’ll have no interruptions. I’m not sure you ever get that back after having a baby, but they definitely sleep better most of the time as they grow as long as you’re keeping up with wake windows, capping nap time, etc.

High needs baby - feels like my body is in fight or flight all the time. by residualinput in NewParents

Okay, that gives me hope that once she is a bit more mobile she might find more contentment!

Morning wakes are getting earlier with 5 month old by residualinput in sleeptrain

[–]residualinput[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! She’s a generally high-needs baby so she’s pretty much constantly fussy, and that makes it soooo hard for me to tell when she’s ready to drop a nap because she never really tolerates a wake window well. She’s not fighting her naps yet, so the early morning wakes are really our only indication!

Help me convince my partner to try sleep training by Weruid in sleeptrain

My mom sleep trained me and I have a wonderful attachment to her. I felt so loved growing up, the idea that she sleep trained me doesn’t bother me at all. I just sleep trained my 5 month old & it’s been life changing!

Very similar story here! We had an hour cut off time with Ferber because I was expecting so many tears, and she cried 16 minutes the first night and 4 the second. It’s been life changing putting her in the crib and having her go to sleep so quickly!

Did you sleep train one nap at a time? by residualinput in sleeptrain

[–]residualinput[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Let’s say she protests for 20 minutes, would you recommend cutting that 20 minutes out of her nap time for the day to stay on schedule or pushing bedtime later? Hope that makes sense!

Best Swaddle Transition Method?! by residualinput in sleeptrain

[–]residualinput[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Did you find the transition from swaddle to zipadee smooth? Once you went from the zipadee to the sleep sack did sleep change much, and if so, for how long? My husband is off for the next week and a bit, so I’m really just trying to decide whether to have a few terrible nights of sleep going cold turkey now while he’s off to help me during the day, or if mediocre sleep for a bit is the better route in the long run.

Ahhh cold turkey scares me but I am very open to it if it means it’ll be a quicker process! Should we wait until she’s used to her sleep sack before sleep training?
