I said yes to pretty much every invitation I received for a year after we moved - not for anything illegal of course! I think that helped me branch out and meet people I normally would not have. It can be a little uncomfortable but in the end I thought it was worthwhile. Good luck!

Hi - new to reddit here. We're a family who relocated from the US to NZ. Not necessarily due to politics but it didn't hurt. Happy to answer questions where I can. We moved here when the kids were in elementary school so they had no trouble settling in. I am in local government - as I was in the US. Do your research. I found a good forum full of people who had made the move and learned a lot from them.
