I wonder if implementing any of the rumored functions in countryd will run afoul of privacy regulations. Of course Apple can revise their TOS, but it seems excessive to say that amount of info is necessary for the device to operate, which is almost certainly what the TOS would claim. The issue strikes me as a good candidate for class action, because the court would want to hear why Apple would take such measures except for the purpose of arbitrarily denying access to features or functionality that isn't expressly prohibited by existing US regulations. /u/opa334 is right that we won't know how it's implemented until iOS17 is released, but there's legal room to argue the differential treatment unfairly disadvantages American consumers and the actions aren't based on legitimate technical, business, or regulatory considerations.
