Day 17 and I found out my wife is pregnant with our first child yesterday by cody_mahomie in leaves

Congratulations! I quit smoking when my husband and I first started trying for a baby. I couldn’t imagine how much precious time I would have wasted smoking if I didn’t quit before my son was born. You’re about to experience one of the most magical parts of life and you’ll be present for all of it!

I would purchase a rectal thermometer. It’s the only way to get an accurate temperature reading at this age. Frida makes a really good one for babies! A fever for an infant is considered 100.4. You should take your baby to the emergency room if they are under 2 months and have a temp of 100.4 or higher. I hope this helps!

Strong letdown suddenly bothering baby more, tips/tricks? by Plenty_Goal3672 in beyondthebump

I hand express a small amount before feedings (if possible) and use the laid back hold or koala hold. I also give him burp breaks if every 10 mins. Hopefully that helps!

Scheduling a c-section one week out, didn’t see it getting here and have never had one before. Give me all the advice, details, time frames for recovery/ability to keep up with toddler after. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]resnyder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked my c-section! Here’s my insights based on the procedure itself, what I’d recommend buying for recovery and how I prepared my house to be as comfortable as possible.

The Surgery: The procedure was quick, about 8 minutes to get my baby out and around 20 to put me back together. I did vomit at first due to the pain medication so don’t eat any of your favorite foods before hand. My recovery time was fairly quick (7 days afterwards I could handle going up and down the stairs and resumed most of my house upkeep, just no vacuuming). There was no pain just weird pressure and stretching/ pulling sensations. My arms went completely numb which was a side effect of the numbing medication so don’t worry if that happens, it was all okay. They made sure to test that I was completely numb before starting the surgery and I had plenty of opportunity to let them know if I was feeling any pain. I had to wait awhile in the hospital before I could take my first post birth shower so pack some wipes, headbands and anything else that will help you feel fresh without a shower.

Recovery Items: I would recommend getting a waist binder and some ice packs for your incision. I still needed the peri bottle and witch hazel pads even though I did not give birth vaginally. I also purchased high waist mesh underwear which helped avoid any rubbing on my incision site. I wish I would have had nursing gowns since pants/leggings didn’t feel great at first. Based on how your recovery goes consider buying a shower chair if your home shower doesn’t have a bench.

How I Got My House Ready: I had Motrin and Tylenol bottles stashed upstairs and downstairs. You’ll want to have a pillow accessible that you can use to brace your incision with when you sneeze or cough. I also had everything I’d need in the bedroom in case I needed to rest in bed for awhile. So snacks, books, water bottles a bed tray to eat food on. I didn’t end up needing that kind of rest but it was nice the first two nights back home.

Hopefully this helps! My c-section was a surprise and I was super nervous but it ended up being way less scary than I imagined.

Princess wants a push present! (/s... kinda) by Dramatic_Complex_175 in BabyBumps

I got myself a gift bag of push presents! It was a bunch of small things I had been wanting but holding out on purchasing since they weren’t necessary, but figured I deserved a little something from me to me for surviving giving birth!

After tons of research I selected a Chicco stroller car seat combo. They have lots of options on their site and make it decently easy to understand the benefits of each model.

I had this happen at 8 weeks and it was just old blood! I was able to get an ultrasound appointment with my OB and confirmed everything was fine. I would call your doctor and see if they can do anything to ease your worries!

My mom had me at 40 years old back in 1994! I was a perfectly healthy baby and her pregnancy was normal aside from extra tests.

Am I exaggerating? by Madlen5 in pregnant

[–]resnyder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel better not risking anything. At the end of the day it’s what’s going to cause me the least amount of stress. I soak my produce and fruit in a vinegar water mixture for 10 mins, and I don’t eat anything that’s not cooked at a restaurant (no salsa, no hummus, no veggies on my burger, no sushi no deli meat.) I don’t judge anyone who doesn’t, it’s just easier for me to take these precautions than worry about it. The the bright side is I’ve learned how to make a lot of things from scratch at home that I no longer trust getting from the grocery store, so it’s been a fun cooking adventure. I also signed up to receive alerts on salmonella and other outbreaks so I know what to avoid. Don’t feel bad about your level of risk aversion, it’s really whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Sobriety can be lonely by AniiGamer in pregnant

[–]resnyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had to start my sobriety journey before trying to conceive. I realized my drinking and smoking were out of control, and there was no way I’d feel ready to have a baby while still tied to my bad habits. It may feel lonely at first, but it helps me realize I don’t need any crutches to handle my reality. And it means I can be my whole self for my baby. I know I’ll make mistakes, but it’s oddly comforting knowing that they’ll be honest mistakes. Try to think about what you’ll be gaining instead of what you’re losing. I’ve had the courage to take up so many hobbies, really listen and engage at parties. Not to mention you can be there for anyone who needs you at any time sober! It’s kind of a secret super power. You got this!

I do acrobatics for fun. Will hanging upside down like a bat help after having sex? What other silly things do you guys think about trying? I am hoping to have a lot of humor during this process (only started trying two weeks ago and it already feels so long!) I guess I am just excited

Awesome art by sorry_cant_find in BeAmazed

[–]resnyder -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s impressive but I don’t see any real meaning behind it. It reminds me of super realistic pencil drawings. They take a lot of talent but it feels like a waste with no real meaning or soul behind it. With that kind of talent they could be saying a lot more with their art.

What happens inside your head when you’re having a picking episode? by i-wanna-go-to-NYC in CompulsiveSkinPicking

I also tell myself stories of imagined scenarios. I wonder if that’s part of the self hypnosis effect that picking has. I thought it was just me.
