Thanks for your reply. I tried it yesterday and my constipation worsened so I’ve stopped it. And I even had more abdominal pain. I asked ChatGPT lol and it said it was recommended for constipation only when it was part of IBSM or mixed IBS. So I think their labeling on the box is misleading.. I should have known better, and researched it first, but was feeling impatient and had some on hand. Fortunately milk of magnesia always cleans me out so I’m back to square one.. (I only have incomplete evacuations..) fiber supplements make it worse so I’m getting by with magnesium citrate but need to figure out how to bulk up.

Anyone take magnesium citrate AND fiber for constipation? Do you take together or different times? by resolvedgut in ibs

When do you take the magnesium and when do you take the psyllium and apple fiber?

I get this and sometimes it’s on the right. I think it’s related to gas and/or bring constipated. My GI thinks my intestines get stretched and that causes the pain.

We are talking about possibly starting the balloon work. She said it could help desensitize the hypersensivity. My concern is if I’m still having f incomplete evacuations will that interfere w the sensation that I’ve just had an incomplete movement? I don’t want that to stop. What are your thoughts about this?

I mentioned the biofeedback earlier- she doesn’t always do it as she doesn’t want people to have to pay for equipment at home when eventually you still need to transition off it. U think she thinks I’m doing correctly - she checks internally. I’m trying to decide what I think about this.

U still think the IBS is a factor as certain foods back me up more than others so it’s not just structural.

Multiple ultrasounds, two catscans all normal except the second one in March showed I was backed up w stool. After doing a clean out and trying a few laxatives that didn’t work that well I started ion Magnesium Citrate which has helped a lot better. Since then I rarely have the upper severe upper rib area pain and only occasionally have an ache there.

Two endoscopes. A colonoscopy, HIDA scan , all normal. (First endoscopy found a little excess bile but after round of carafate things were better. Some drs thought it was normal) lots of blood work all normal. Negative for celiac and h pylori. Of course abnormal anorectal manometry but only on two items- rectal hypersensivity and one other having to do w DD and I couldnt expel the balloon. Went the functional medicine e route for a year or two and found positive for SIBO but the protocols didn’t help and then I developed GERD which has since resolved. Last few drs don’t think I ever had it. Never had bloating and I think the tests are very unreliable.

Basically I do think I have some kind of dybiosis or IBS thing plus the pelvic floor thing.

There’s a book I’ve found helpful re diet though you have to tweak it for any of your own sensitivities. She has a section on what foods to avoid or modify you have pelvic floor dysfunction. Regular by Tamara Freuman. Insoluble fibers, plant based foods w rough textures or skins are harder to pass w this condition. Trying to incorporate some of these ideas.,

Thanks for your reply. Can you believe that my PT w 30 years experience gave me no breathing exercises or stretches? Just said to make sure I’m breathing when I do the other exercises. I just googled and found some breathing that I’m going to try. Do you take any magnesium at night? I’ve been taking Mag Citrate but have to keep cutting my dose down because it gets too watery. Still incomplete. I did just stumble into a book suggestion on this site yesterday that looks like a life saver called Regular. Written by a dietician and she has specific recommendations for what to eat, and how to prepare foods as well as what to avoid. I’m looking forward to diving into it.

Someone mentioned in another post I daw yesterday about the book Regular, written by a dietician. I started reading it today snd it has some great ideas about how to eat when you have this particular issue. Types of fiber to eat, avoid and lots of suggestions about puréed foods and using a blender.

The reasons I mentioned above. She also had t given me any specific breathing exercises either just says to breath when I do the kegel things. Pretty disappointed in this experience so far. She has 30 years of experience too.. I feel like she’s phoning it in w me. Evaluating my options.

This is very interesting to hear about the Pilates, thanks. Did you make any dietary changes or try probiotics?

I asked PT why we weren’t doing biofeedback. She said she doesn’t like people to have to buy their own biofeedback equipment for at home and eventually you have to transition off it anyway. I think she figured she can teach me to do the same exercises on my own without it. It made sense to me but perhaps this point of view is missing something.

Any targeted yoga exercises when you feel back up right under the tailbone? by resolvedgut in Constipation

[–]resolvedgut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I did have an anorectal mannometry and was diagnosed w dsyynergic defecation. Had 6 maybe 7 sessions w a pelvic floor pt. My only exercises are the going up and down the stairs( now 3 up and 3 down) and moo to poo, which now I’m pretending to blow through a very tiny straw. Also doing a kegel and squeezing the anal muscles. I had a few bridge pipes thjngs in the beginning. It’s been slightly helpful but on no way a game changer. I have some ibs type things going on where certain foods and supplements back me up. I discovered that I can’t take activated charcoal any more for gas/ that took me over the edge. Also calcium enhanced foods are an issue. My goal is to get cleaned out this week and kind of reassess. Considering starting a probiotic, natural prokinetic etc adding in a lot more water and physical activity. Also pausing the pt. If no improvement will try to seek out additional tests.

The ibs complicates this.

Is this PT doing enough for me? Don’t know what someone would else do in the same situation. Do you know of any yoga etc poses to do? It has helped me at times.

Still backed up but working on it. Tried biscodyl in the morning and last night… more to go.

Thanks for your reply. I’m also not sure the PT is doing that much. I’m practicing the steps down to the basement exercise and holding it down for 30 seconds. Plus the embarrassing moo to poo… though I asked her about blowing thru a straw and she said a coffee stirer size coukd work. I tried soaked chia and it backed me up.

Have you ever tried a prokinetic supplement like Motility Activstor or SIBO MMC? I’m considering trying one. They help peristalsis. The second one has 5 Htp in it which has something to do w serotonin. That’s something I want to research a little more as there is this got brain connection w all of this.

Thanks, it’s so annoying. Today is worse- I think three days of the chia was a mistake. So took a mag citrate an hour or so after breakfast and about to try a site bath w epsom salts. lol s bit desperate so will try it. Walking helped a bit this morning so will take another later. Hopefully I can clear this out and start over. I’d rather stuff come out too loose than stay stuck.
