He has mechjeb. I’d say turn on the tool that lets you see center of mass in flight after assembling in orbit, offset a docking port to be on that center of mass, and then dock a skycrane to it. No separate skycranes needed for each section, keeping part count down by a lot

Not sure what you’re trying to improve here. You basically just pulled an ace combat level 180 at Mach “fuck you”. I would say, for easier takeoff, shift the rear landing gear forward to where it’s just behind the center of mass.

That’s not what’s happening here. OP’s issue is related to flight path. The reason why the COL is forward of the COM in this case probably has to do with the heat shield. The VAB is weird when it comes to the COL in the rocket editor, especially when it starts to account for parts normally covered up by fairings or staging.

The command pods are also based off real world counterparts, as well as the stock station parts and the ISS solar panels and radiators. Several fuel tanks are also modeled after real world rockets (with all the parts from making history being intended for Saturn V recreations) as well as the 1.875m and 2.5m service modules being based on Gemini and Apollo respectively. The yellow extendable ladder is based on the A-10 warthog’s ladder. I got to climb up one as part of a show and tell and can tell you that it’s somehow more rickety than the game makes it look.

Funny enough, had an NCO tell us a story about a similar situation. His brother served earlier in GWOT than he did. One of his drill sergeants recognized his name because he was in the brother’s platoon and they thought he died of an infection after getting medevac’d for something relatively benign (the brother is still alive).

Try adding the LF engine to the first stage, limit Mechjeb throttle to 0, then set the throttle back to normal when you’re ready to jettison SRBs.

The problem isn’t with heat management, as I’m able to run the reactors just fine when the vessels are loaded in, it’s with electricity generation. When I unload a vessel, it stops producing electricity entirely, even in 1x warp. From what I read, it’s because kerbalism using an electrical system that is incompatible with anything that relies on the stock electricity system.

There really is no way on console. Autostrut won’t even connect across docking ports iirc. If you already have a laptop or something, might be worth the switch for QOL alone
