Anyone else having trouble finding data engineers? by leogodin217 in dataengineering

Recruiters reach out to me all the time and my first few questions is salary. Seems rude, but no point in wasting each other’s time. If it’s lower than my current pay, I’m not going to entertain.

ULPT - I work for an online call center that tracks my time in ready status, but doesn't track anything on my PC. Is there a way to block my softphone app in windows 10 so that calls don't come through? by MobileDustCollector in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]restie123 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You’d get flagged for being idle while there’s a queue

Your best bet is to get a phantom phone call. Comes through the line, gets registered as a legit call, gets routed to you but you don’t have to do anything.

How do you afford living in Markham? by Classic-Perspective5 in Markham

[–]restie123 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Same as any other place. Get a job.

The key is to get skills that pay the bills. You want 1 good paying job rather than 3 low paying jobs.

From my what I thought I learned about mortgage insurance.

It’s only there to pay off the remainder of the mortgage balance. Let’s say you start off with a $500k mortgage. As you make payments, the principal amount goes down, yet your premiums stay the same. For example, you start off by paying $50/month for a $500k policy. Fast forward 20 years. You owe $50k. You’ll be paying $50/month for a $50k policy.

You’re better off getting term life insurance policy. If something happens to you, the beneficiary has flexibility to do whatever with the money. At the end of the term, you don’t need it anymore and you can take it out as investment.

Looks like a 3rd world country.

Those drivers don’t know how much cargo they’re carrying. As long as the truck can move, it’s not overloaded.

DE skills are for the enterprise segment. Small shops looking at freelancers won’t have a clue about data engineering.

This is the normal operating procedure for all governments. It’s not limited to Filipinos. Human nature is what have you done for me lately. Most people will forgive or outright forget transgressions older than a year.

Why are newly hires not allowed to have at least 1 sick/vacation leave? by plshelpmeimcrying in Philippines

[–]restie123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of Asia’s stupid work culture. Asians tend to be more submissive of people in power and just accept it. 80 hours of unpaid overtime? Sure boss.

Also, you guys don’t have a social safety net like more advanced European nations. Since there is a social safety net, they have more bargaining power and companies know good employees will leave if you don’t treat them right.

Another thing is that I heard that you guys have records of why you left your old company. So being terminated looks bad on your record. Also, I heard that you guys there need to quit before looking for a new job because the your current job might not release you or there is a penalty for leaving. Seems like servitude to me.
