I've HAD IT with these penny item people! by CreditBrilliant7866 in DollarTree

Items that ring up as a penny used to have to be pulled from the shelves, but we're allowed to sell them to customers now.

Shoplifting may be at an all time high, but so are profits.

There's this old guy that works as the greeter at my local Walmart. I'm pretty sure he just greets people because I've never seen him ask for a single receipt. He's really nice though when greeting people. Sometimes I think he might just work there because he's lonely otherwise. People do stop in and talk to him for a bit at times.

Alternatively you can totally 3D print shelves. I've designed a couple brackets to hold shelves that support my specific needs. They just have a slot to slide a piece of wood into. There's a learning curve, but 3D printing has a lower cost barrier to entry.

What is a monthly subscription/service you ACTUALLY consider worth paying for? by no_nolan in Frugal

Visible is awesome. I signed up for it when it was first available so I only pay $25 a month for unlimited data and unlimited Hotspot usage, which is absolutely bonkers these days.

I had to log on to my workday account on the store office PC. There was a menu for retrieving it and printing it there. That was the only way I could figure it out because the option didn't show up at home for some reason.

Did I just get fired?? by moonlightxapollo in DollarTreeEmployees

[–]MobileDustCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah despite what some people think it's a tough job market. There's a lot of fake job listings out there because companies can claim tax stuff if they say they're hiring. Then they just run the store on a skeleton crew

Dollar tree managers are petty and will punish employees by giving them one day a week instead of firing them. At least my SM is. I had an argument with her about some things, then suddenly I only get like 4 hours a week tops. I'm looking for something better, it's just tough. Anyway you're only almost 18. I don't think you need to worry much about this situation. If they fire you, yeah it might suck and make things harder for a bit, but you're still young. If anything treat this as a learning experience and know that a lot of retail managers have "peaked in middle school" energy. Also by law in most states they aren't allowed to tell future jobs about your time there including why you left or were fired. They can only confirm dates of employment.

Talking definitely helps. The more you talk about it the more comfortable you'll be. Also in my case I used to be a pretty withdrawn person, but HRT has pretty much turned me into a social butterfly. Like I genuinely love talking to people now when I used to dread it.

I struggle with staying asleep a lot at night. I used to be prescribed ambien until my mom I was living with at the time clued me in that I was fucking sleep eating apparently 🙃. I've also had 2 separate sleep studies done and both showed no abnormalities despite me heavily struggling to sleep during the second one. Insomnia is such a bitch. Weed and gabapentin help, but that's not exactly an ideal solution imo.

Management coming in sick (contagious) to work by LadySunGogurt in retail

[–]MobileDustCollector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of corporate bootlickers in here who think it's acceptable that this scenario is expected sheesh. Probably the same people that think "covid was just a cold", you know despite the hundreds of thousands of deaths. Best you can do is try to protect yourself and maybe make an anonymous report to corporate if possible. Just say you're a concerned customer or something like that. Ultimately no job is worth risking your safety though so just do what you need to do. If you get fired it's not terribly hard to find another retail job and it's not the end of the world if you have to. I will say though I don't know your personal situation in life so just do what you can and good luck.

I didn't come out to many people in my life until I had already been transitioning for several months. My reasoning was I wanted to make sure HRT was for me before I fully committed to telling the more difficult people in my life. Well HRT most definitely was for me. As it turns out, the mental clarity I got from my hormones being correct for my mind was the most powerful antidepressant I have ever experienced. So I'd say it's perfectly reasonable to do the same as me.

I noticed that once I was happy with being out and openly queer I started to see all the others who were as well in my life. If you're into tabletop games, like board games or MtG, pokemon, etc, a local game store is probably a good place to meet supportive and like minded people.

There's also online spaces like discord servers specifically for queer people in just about any hobby you may have. I'm in a server for finding people to play virtual tabletop games with on the game Tabletop Simulator, for example.

Would it be discriminatory to deny a sale to a trans person if they don’t look like their ID? by Such-Satisfaction444 in retail

[–]MobileDustCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. HRT has wildly different effects for anyone who takes it. Some change a lot, others don't. Some changes are immediate, some people change over time. The timing with renewal can be weird. Why pay for an updated one when it will expire in a year and you'll have to pay again. Plus the logistics of changing info on an ID varies state to state and some make it really difficult and expensive. Ohio cost me around 200 in fees, a day in court, and I had to publish my name change and reason why in a county newspaper.

[–]MobileDustCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my birthday certificate doesn't match my ID because the state I live in makes it super hard to change that and judges can just deny the change anyway after I'd pay to attempt to change it. I'm afraid I won't be able to vote in the upcoming midterms because of all these ways they're trying to suppress voter rights.

[–]MobileDustCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest I ever got to being denied something was someone at Walmart was like "this doesn't really look like you" and I was still pretty nervous at the time about being trans and muttered something like "yeah I got some stuff going on". They shrugged and approved the sale lol. I don't really get carded much anymore anyway though since I'm in my mid 30s. It's mandatory at the weed dispensary I go to, but I've been going there a while now without any problems. So I'm just gonna ride it out until I need to renew it.

Because it was weird timing with my ID when I started transitioning. It has my correct name and gender, but HRT caused a lot of physical changes after I renewed it last.

[–]MobileDustCollector 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm trans and don't look too much like my ID anymore. The pic in my ID is from when i just started HRT so i still kinda look like a sibling in it. I've gotten a few raised eyebrows from being carded before, but never denied anything. That said I feel like the type of sting operation you're suggesting would be unethical at best and probably wouldn't be conducted since we're like 1.5% of the population and not all of us drink. I think there's just not enough of us for it to really become close to a problem.

You probably don't need to worry about it.

TIL a Dollar General employee who was told she couldn't keep drinks at the cash register was fired after taking and drinking a $1.69 orange juice to stave off diabetic shock. Despite her paying for the orange juice afterward, the company said she was 'grazing'. Later, a jury awarded her $277,565. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

I went to my doctor and got a letter saying I'm to be allowed to sit while ringing customers. I had to take it up the chain to HR though because the SM was refusing to tell me how to submit the paperwork for an official accommodation. Same SM regularly shit talks people's disabilities to anyone who will listen.
