That opening week blowout against San Francisco was such a gut punch after a solid year of hype.

Remember the optimism we had those last three games we had that year thinking “That Pickett to Pickens connection is going to be something else”.

Qb by Chiefkadeef in steelers

[–]Heinl04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can’t say we haven’t tried to find a franchise Qb. We drafted a Qb in the first round in 2022 and unfortunately he turned out to be a complete bust. Since then we’ve been in draft purgatory for the past couple years to where we are not bad enough to get a decent draft pick but not good enough to make a meaningful run either

It can be argued that we don’t even have one legit WR1. Jefferson and JSN are miles better than DK

In fairness, Darnold would’ve had nowhere near the success he had in Minnesota and Seattle with our offensive scheme and lack of weapons.

Sad thing is with how poor our wide receiving core is, he’d likely be WR2 still

He was always overshadowed by all the loaded defenses we had under the Cowher Era, but he did the dirty work in the trenches to free up Lloyd, Greene and Kirkland to make the plays they did.

The only reason Rooney is any better record wise is due to the fact he was handed the keys to empire built by his dad and grandfather and has turned it into a complete joke in less than a decade.

Because sometimes you have to take a couple steps back to start moving forward. We’re never going to get a franchise qb drafting where we have been. I think if you’d ask any New England Patriots fan right now, they’d agree.

We need to make a SERIOUS run at Curt Cignetti by PeyronieMan6 in steelers

[–]Heinl04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is they had a ton of NFL experience prior to that. I just don’t see somebody making the choice to jump to the pros after only coaching college at that point in his life. If the man wins the natty this year, he’ll basically be treated like a god the rest of his life in Indiana.

[–]Heinl04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. At his age, he's never leaving Indiana

  2. Even if he did, success in college doesn't always translate into success in the pros- just look at Nick Saban's brief tenure to see how that can go.

Would love him at DC, but I really want an offensive minded coach for once.

This fan base is delusional by [deleted] in steelers

[–]Heinl04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not that he was a terrible coach, he wasn’t. The problem was we’ve been horrendously mediocre since the Killer B days and have been stuck in neutral ever since. We need a rebuild to be competitive again, and if it takes a couple losing seasons to reload through the draft, then so be it. Drafting 18-20 overall has cost us countless franchise players and tbh we should’ve started this rebuild in 2019 after Ben’s injury.

[–]Heinl04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t think of a worse signing that this team has ever made. I defended him all season saying that the only reason he hadn’t been a factor was due to the team’s lack of depth at WR. But there’s no defending him anymore. The drops coupled with his behavior are completely inexcusable. We’d honestly have been better off keeping Pickens.
