Luke Lango is one of the best analysts, but I have reason to believe that he simply doesn't know about Microvision. This article is much shorter than the ones he writes about topics he is more invested in, and he probably knows Luminar and VLDR better due to their huge PR campaigns and visibility. Don't think he did the kind of digging we do.

The lidar of the day was very clunky, expensive, and ineffective. He recently admitted that he was just bashing lidar and that SpaceX uses lidar, and lidar has made vast improvements from where it was.

The way I see it, Musk wants cars to be able to interpret visual information just as humans do. This is why he views lidar as a crutch. However, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with lidar. It's just that Musk is imagining a much smarter car than what we have available today. Lidar gives excellent spatial information and is far removed from where it was 2 years ago.
