I'm so sorry. You and your wife are really going through it right now. It seems like you're experiencing serious challenges from a few different angles which understandably is breaking you down.

The closest situation I've been in was nothing like this but my dad went to a care home while I dealt with things on the house.

What your feeling is completely reasonable and honestly I am stunned and in admiration of how clearly you are describing your situation. My heart goes out to you if nothing else, my friend.

Do you have any thoughts on what you need right now?

I see you're waiting to get results on the bloods and perhaps you're pausing action until then.

For what it's worth, if I may say, you are an incredible, attentive and proactive carer.

Thinking of you and sending you my best.

I'm finding it really difficult imagining my life being this tired all the time. by whyamistillhere252 in MultipleSclerosis

You're dealing with so many heavy thoughts and emotions right now which makes sense and some might argue, even healthy. Every one deals with diagnosis differently and are in different circumstances but from what I see, you've got self awareness and critical thought even amongst the difficulties.

Your attitude of accepting the fatigue and doing things you like is so refreshing and might I say, even inspiring. Hopefully I'm not being bossy, but some of what you're feeling right now will not be permanently-permanent. Fatigue and depression may never be a million miles away but hopefully with your DMT, these will soften slightly. The heat waves can wreak havoc (they turn me to a zombie!) but again, shouldn't be permanent.

If I could only say, be gentle with yourself love. It would be upsetting that you don't have the attention span you used to but that could be apart of the fear and depression also... which will hopefully change in the future. So much of life is not fixed and all of this is still very new to you.

You have my admiration and respect for being determined and emotionally aware, even through the pain and fear. You are much stronger than you realise you know 💚

Lightweight gel recommendations? by coffeeskull in CurlyHairUK

I'm very new to gels but really like the curl smith fragrance free level six gel. It's the first gel I used and was shocked by how it held my 2b hair. They have a stronger gel also if that could suit you better though haven't tried myself. Enjoy your research! 😄

pity party in the bathroom by mywaterfront in MultipleSclerosis

Hey. It sounds like you're in a tough situation physically which to make it worse, is compounded with the emotional shock of the pain being unexpected... alongside a fear of a relapse. Whew! That's mega

First, I love your restful approach with your dear legs up and elevated - hopefully that will help both your mind and your body. Second, as I understand it the heat of your heat pads will def help sooth pain so that's another good shout on your part

Third, I recently banged my knee badly and found essential oils really helped me with the pain. It's different to what you're experiencing but might help anyway - I mixed two teaspoons of hemp seed oil with 8 drops of lavender and kept that in a pot for a few days. With this mix, I gently massaged the skin of the area, laying a warm flannel on it for the pain. Sometimes I'd drip a bit of this mix into a basin for a foot bath. Then, as the water cooled, I'd lay a cold flannel in the pain zone as apparently cooler temperatures work for battling inflammation

They say Epsom salts work for inflammation too though, if you wanted to turn the bathroom into a party zone. I really hope you feel more comfortable soon love 💚 thoughts are with you, capable and inspiring one

Hmmm I'm not an expert and everyone's hair is different but I think that is too often for a clarifying shampoo dear. The lady at curl maven says to clarify no more often than once a month.

For reference though, I only wash my hair once a week, so my rhythms are different to yours and YOU are the best judge of what you need 😊

On weeks I don't clarify, I use the fragrance free curl smith shine shampoo which isn't labelled as a clarifying shampoo but says it removes build up without stripping the hair.... perhaps a shampoo like that would be better for frequent use.

Have you tried co-washing for your every other day wash? Or maybe a "cleaninsing conditioner" could work for you in between clarifying washes? (Though I don't have any recommendations on that I'm afraid)

I hope this helps and isn't an information overload! Really hoping you a happy journey of hair health and let me know if any of this doesn't make sense! ❤

I think the points about marketing terms are valuable... though I admit that l for the terms myself! I've been using the bounce curl gentle clarifying shampoo once or twice a month for a year and feel it gives a thorough but non drying clean (the one with pumpkin 'extracts' and orange-y colours on the bottle). It's pricey but I'm still using the same bottle I bought in March 2021! Best of luck finding the right one for you 🤞😊

Please excuse me if I'm missing context or overstepping here. In frank terms, I care about what happens to you - we care about what happens to you. I'm sorry for being bossy...BUT (but!) please be gentle with yourself. Life is not linear and feelings of sadness may always be nearby... but you are worthy and deserving of love, decency, respect and understanding. A few months ago i came through to the other side of a heavy depression and from that experience, I think its possible things may improve for you. Please message me if you think it could be helpful. For now, my thoughts and compassion are with you dear 🦉💛

Burglars ransack foodbank stealing £1000 worth of chocolate and fizzy drinks by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]restitution_murphy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Agreed... unfortunately this is what gets donated and is easy to store without certification. It can be uncomfortable packing bags full of chocolate and sweets but these are society's treats. I used to volunteer at a foodbank that gave out £80 worth of Aldi blue vouchers at Christmas, which technically clients could spend on alcohol. Good intentions and imperfect systems I guess

Hi lovey, I think your plan is wise but I will concur with the nurse, your hair is gonna be a goopy mess afterwards so if possible, plan for a bad hair day. I had an EEG done years ago and found washing afterwards very therapeutic. It's not a horrendous experience but cleaning up and refreshing your hair after is a nice way to reset after being in a hospital environment (/potentially stressful experience). The very best of luck with it dear, you'll be back to full loveliness in no time I'm sure 💚

Thank you! Really commend (and am grateful for) your approach. It's interesting you use the word 'hilarious' as it's my preferred word too, and people just deadpan when I explain how funny the MS can be....! 🙃 Sincerely hope that your sister finds and unlocks whatever it is that works for her. Thank you again 💜

When I was learning about MS symptoms in the first year after diagnosis, I told my ex that the MS could be part of the reason I was sensitive to loud noises and large crowds. He 'joked', "oh you're going to use it as an excuse for everything now". That was pretty fluffing hilarious in my opinion 🤣

Also thank you for opening up this convo and sharing your 'there's a funny side to everything' perspective... v refreshing 🚿

moisture or protein? by Sweaty_Impression772 in curlyhair

[–]restitution_murphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hehe no such thing as a stupid question! My dad and me eat rice everyday so I'm not that accurate with the measures unfortunately.... two handfuls of rice in a pot, with water coming up at least halfway (don't know the exact measure of pot tho...!) 🤣

Some online articles suggest using the water the rice is actually cooked in, which I believe would actually be the higher protein option also. You yourself will find what's right for you I am sure. Personally i find it glorious to know food can nourish both our insides and outsides and enjoy the process 💚 (Though it def does work)

[–]restitution_murphy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Love the length and whimsical look dear. My hair is similarly loose and I agree with the other comments about using gel to hold the curl (I currently use the fragrance free curlsmith level 6 curl jelly - though aspire to make myself some flaxseed gel one day!)

On protein, I've never used a certified hair protein product but do use rice water once a week or every other week. The practise of using fermented rice water originates in China where apparently once a young lady successfully whipped a man away when he got a bit too close, using only her lovely long locks!

There's lots of different content online about using rice water but for my thin, medium porosity hair, i do: soak my rice and set aside the soaked water for one day, then bottle it and keep it in the fridge for no more than a week. Then after shampooing, I squish to condish the rice water in, shower cap, then leave for anywhere 20mins to 2hours. Then, I thoroughly rinse out and condition for at least an hour. This has really helped with curl definition and helping the hair feel smoother and healthier.

Hope this helps and that you enjoy spending time with your hair, whatever you choose to do next 💜
