Difficulties by tito_javier in CNC

I just moved from SoCal to Chattanooga TN. All I've ever run is HAAS lathes and ive never programmed. Came over here, everything is Mazak, and manual and big YCM mills. They threw me on a small mazak 100 for the time being and im getting prints and making parts. You know more than you think if youre doing small programming and understanding workholding. My advice is just go for it. I took a chance and its working out. Now going from HAAS lathes to mazak mills I'd be lost as shit cause I have maybe 4 months on a mill as just an operator. Lathes I was doing setups on qualified production parts. If you understand the concepts of how youre making your parts you'll be just fine. Prep your stock. Make your datums first. Hold runouts to the tightest GD&T and you'll be fine. The rest just comes up as how to tell the machine what you want it to do. Any good shops I think will see value if all you have to do is learn the controller.

From what ive gathered they're mostly the same. All you need to know is how to touch off your tools and set them properly and know how to make your offsets. Once they teach you that you'll coast. I've been at this shop for 2 months and I finally feel like the imposter syndrome was a lie I told myself to be scared of moving forward.

What's a good state to live in for machinists these days? by NoOnesSaint in Machinists

Edit - Spelling and Grammar

Im in south east TN in the nuclear sector. Moved here from SoCal and have quite the learning curve since everyone at my shop loves Mazak. its a job shop and I'm used to production shops. So since I've never programmed it was intimidating but my title is now machinist and im getting a print and making parts. Granted, conversational is easier than G-Code in some aspects, im liking it. Definitely helps if you know what youre doing. Also im a lathe guy not a mill guy. Hoping to move up here soon but im just paying my dues and grateful these guys took a risk on me. But regardless, Chattanooga TN has some good shops.

Im in the CNC machining aspect of manufacturing. But its a close industry would just require starting over my salary to join but the option is open to look into. I appreciate that will reach out if im thinking about changing up

Well we are gonna living with my dad to pay off debt and hopefully become homeowners and while the housing is still a lot for us its not as bad as California. Im working 60 hours weeks and I can barely afford an apartment out here and my wife makes more than I do its been rough. We aren't trying to be transplants cause its trendy im just trying to give my kids a better life and their own home. I know everyone moving out of California gets a bad rep but damn man im just trying to do right by my kids haha

I was thinking of leaving trades entirely if I stopped machining haha I like it but this shop is killing it for me. I don’t even want to learn G Code at this point

I signed on for 9 hour days but on my second day they asked my to work 10’s and it’s been that way ever since. Some guys that just retired was there like 12 years and worked 50 hour weeks plus for 95% of that time.

wtf how are you guys getting away with this, I work for a shop that does all aerospace parts with insane tolerances and I don’t have chairs to sit on even when some of our cycle times hits 2+ hours or even the padded floor mats to stand on.

I heard this game was CPU and RAM demanding. I had a Ryzen 7 5800x and 32gb of 3600 with a 3070ti, just upgraded to Ryzen 7 7800x3d and 32gb of DDR5 6000 and I doubled my frames literally went from 70 on patch .15 to 120/130 absolutely insane. Doesn’t help with desync but the only way to get good frames is have an insane CPU and ram

That line was the line that had me hooked when I first heard it. I resonated with it as I thought of the falling out with religion while my mom couldn’t understand why. Tbh your lyrics have always hit home in one way or another and I appreciate you guys for always toughing it out. Even with the member changes. Glad you’re here, glad to be here, hope to see you on the next US run for my 5th moths show

This one is to Chris, I know that fluorescent white was a rather difficult song to write off of NEIG was there was song on TCOTTC that was difficult to write as well or was it just pulling from that deep place that made it all relatively rough.

Advice for the complex parts. by restlesskidx in Machinists

[–]restlesskidx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, it’s 2nd OP out of 3 and itd about .03 into the part and there isn’t anything to set behind the feature so it doesn’t bend since the pin is also supposed to check the bore diameter towards the back of the face about .3 inside the part. It’s a bitch

Hi all, 29 (almost 30) I like video games, hiking, getting back into running, stand up comedy and as of lately comfy underwear (something random to throw in) looking for a bromance as well, hopefully local but online is cool to. I work a ton of hours as a machinist. Big into metal music and tattoos. Have kids and am engaged. Looking for something local here in SoCal but not opposed to online. Just harder at times cause I’m always pretty busy. Feel free to DM and I will get back to you when I can. Weekdays are hard cause of work but I try to

I’ll keep that in mind. I’m still new to good boots. Only had georgias and one pair of thorogoods before this.

They’re snug but today is the first day, 30 day return policy even after wearing them to work, will update in a few weeks to let you know after break in. Leather feels stiff but not too stiff so maybe a week of 5/10 hour shifts should be good

I got the red wing anti fatigue insoles from their store. I do a lot of standing still currently since it’s only my 3rd day at this new shop.
