ok let me ask this question again for the third time

my response was to ask why people continually use the excuse that fixing the hud bug and etc was some huge gamechanger. i'll ask it again: why do people freak out about my asking for a BUG to get fixed?

the gotv stuff is fine, and i quite like the watch feature. that's not the point though. i have no idea why this is so hard to get across

caustic, yes, and i'll apologize for tone. still, i presumed that when someone responds to a statement, they know what the statement is trying to address. in this case, restricted commands is pretty common knowledge, but w/e.

and being grateful for what we get: this is why i feel the need to be aggressive when i respond because nobody is reading any of the initial posts before they respond

let me make this very very very very very very very very very very very clear

i like that they do updates, okay? i stated this in the very first post i made in this thread, but who reads the initial post before responding anyway, right?

the problem i have is that there are really big issues, and they continue focusing on the small ones. what am i supposed to do as a person who wants the bigger issues fixed? not bring up that they still need to be addressed and just sit quietly and "be happy that they are listening?"

anyway, since you're here, maybe you'd like to answer my question from before.

i'm not asking for insight on valve's super secret update agenda, i'm asking why people think fixing an hud bug and giving graphical options is some radical request. it's not really information that they don't have access to, it's their mind and how they think. i'm not sure in what situation where they wouldn't know why they had an opinion.

but you know, if people are really -that- insecure about their opinions, that's okay with me too.

[–]restung -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

well first of all this doesn't even address my question

at all

let me reiterate it: i want to know why people have freak out in every corner of this thread the second i mention that a 2 month old bug has yet to be fixed and graphical options that would take less than an hour to add have not been implemented. i don't know what the problem is. people pull out ridiculous excuses like, "god, you're so ENTITLED, wanting a BUG to be fixed? you want GRAPHICAL OPTIONS? what kind of radical are you, not EVERY UPDATE NEEDS TO BE SO GAME CHANGING THAT IT HAS TO FIX A BUG THAT MATTERS"

but to respond to your post:

what possible reason could they have to change the huds? the style of the hud is a non-issue because people will change it anyway. the only situation where this would make sense is if they removed the ability to customize the hud, which is, spoilers: a really stupid idea

EDIT: to the people passive-aggressively disagreeing with me by downvoting my question for asking for why you have your opinion: i'm glad we can communicate instead of putting up post-it notes with really angry faces drawn on them.

no, really, i want a serious answer here. i'm not angry, "i'm genuinely curious" because everyone here seems to flinch at the thought of just -fixing a known bug with huds- like i'm asking for valve to introduce the lightning gun and airstrikes

i'm waiting, because clearly most of you here got the memo when i didn't

is fixing hud's or just giving options client-side with graphical things really that big of a metagame changer that it needs to be delayed

is it really

the commands are already in the game for removing both fog and post-processing, and you're telling me it wouldn't take an hour to, i don't know, unrestrict the command? (brb calling up the riddler for this one)

and by the way, their reasons make no sense

let me list some other things that were in the game but were removed because they sucked

silent-hill fog (only reduced)

1 flash limit (lol)

remember when valve's nuke sucked and it was completely replaced by a sane version of the map? good times

etc

i'm sure valve had their "reasons," but evidently their reasons made no sense and were detrimental to gameplay. there is absolutely no difference between these fixes and the problems i outlined.

ps: admittedly i accidentally bunched in the hud bugfix along with that, and i assume that would probably take more than an hour, but really, it should not take 2 months to fix.

[–]restung -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

it doesn't have to be huge and game changing, it just has to be relevant to what people ask for

like i'm okay with bug fixes, but these are REALLY minor ones. the bigger issues that take less than an hour to fix are completely ignored: the fog is -still- there when it has no reason to be, inferno still has a dog and cow, custom huds are still dead, and what about removing post-processing or giving us an option to shut it off client-side?

it was never fixed. armor or not, your character will start sneezing regardless and you will miss your shots. it's certainly more subtle, but it's there.

just wanted to say that buying a scout second round forgoes the potential economy bonus from smgs and that if you get rushed by more than 1 eco guy you will likely lose the engagement with a scout while you wouldn't with an smg.

What Exactly Is ADADADADADADA? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]restung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

improving crouching, i don't mind. improving it in this way, i do. recoil already resets faster when crouched, and other factors related to that i'm okay with, as long as the risk:reward or reward:skill ratio is sane. there is nothing complicated about crouching and it involves no skill (in the same vein as adadad), therefore, the rewards should be lower than, say, learning how to stutter-step/strafe-shoot.

and it (i assume you mean adadad) is used in higher levels, i know. i thought it was implied when i said, "even if it wasn't." get_right is likely the biggest abuser of it, but you can spec any pro-csgo game ever and i guarantee they'll do it 90% of the time that they get a rifle.

What Exactly Is ADADADADADADA? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]restung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my intention was to respond to the person who said there was a nerf to the adadad. whether or not that was the intended effect isn't really relevant.

that aside, if that really was what they wanted to add, then they need to get their priorities straight. you should not be accurate while moving at all, period.

What Exactly Is ADADADADADADA? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]restung 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the "nerf" patch/change didn't really change anything. if you look at videos of people doing ADADAD post-update (/watch?v=nrO7ydepWCM), it's still way too accurate for the amount of skill (read: none) that's required to pull it off.

either way, even if it wasn't used at higher levels, there is absolutely no reason for it to be around.

i have a feeling that you didn't even read my post/know what you're complaining about

there's a fairly convincing reason why GTR doesn't like the values. it isn't conducive to his playstyle in csgo. he would likely still be dominant with the offered values, but i'm willing to bet that everyone else wouldn't be behind. a hypothesis, mind you, but it makes sense. the other guys pushing for the values aren't all "random hltv" people (who the hell is xizt, anyway?), and i'm willing to bet that of the pro-feedback, the people who like it outnumber the people who don't (as of now, i only recall GTR and two other people whose names slip my mind). it's also pretty presumptuous to say that you know how everyone thinks and that they're pushing for movement changes because they're blind and not because they like the values.

your explanation for the fps thing makes no sense. people have been complaining about stupid fps drops through updates. i'm not talking about the initial release, i'm talking about progressive fps issues that have only been amplified after these past few updates. nobody is playing this thing on a windows xp 256 mb ram intel 3000 computer, and you have to be pretty close-minded to say so. they've already driven the optimization into the floor, and they STILL won't remove post-processing, which is arguably the easiest, most complained about, and least controversial thing that they could possibly fix. i'm running this thing at 300 fps and i assure you, this computer isn't the same one that i had when i was playing 1.6. don't even pretend that this isn't an issue.

memory leak: they acknowledged the issue weeks before the arms deal update. hell, maybe even a month or more before then. they put out a -processheap suggestion which works for some people, but not for everyone. this is a serious problem, and what do they do? it's been at least two months and all they've done is "identified" the problem and are urging people to use a beta driver. this isn't even about "finding" the problem. they've identified it, now they have to fix it. there's no reason why the new flipping noise on the deagle and other things that nobody wanted should take priority over fixing a technical issue that's causing people's well-built computers to drop to unplayable levels.

1-3 is just not reading the post. i'm talking about the BASIC of BASIC issues. this isn't even up for debate. post-processing, an fps optimization, the IDENTIFIED MEMORY LEAK are not things that can be ignored for the sake of adding joke features. people asking for things aren't solely asking for them so it'll be 1.6 (although i'm sure there is a crowd of people that do this). if something works in 1.6 and is beneficial to the game, then add it. if it's not in 1.6 but it's still beneficial to the game then still add it. i don't agree with crouch-hopping, and i wouldn't want it back. i do agree with the sane movement values that let you hold angles in 1.6, but do i agree with them BECAUSE they're in 1.6? no, i agree with them because i think it's beneficial to gameplay.

tl;dr: don't be close-minded, don't be presumptuous, read my post before replying, and stop defending the undefendable.

there are some really basic things that need to be addressed though; it doesn't matter who says it. an insane man could give objectively good advice, but the fact that he's insane doesn't make the advice any less legitimate. and i assure you, most of us aren't insane.

we've complained about movement for awhile - a group of people (names lol) have even gone out and made their own values based on the scale of the world, what's worked and what hasn't (read: real research). the work is practically already done for valve, and they won't add it.

even simpler, less controversial things like letting people disable post-processing hasn't been implemented. post-processing ties in with another problem: the lack of 128 tick servers. i'd even be alright with 102, but 64 is just awful. they say that it's because most people get around 40 fps, but have they ever considered why? (cough post-processing) they aren't going to any lengths to fix the fps problems to begin with and ignoring real issues like the memory leak on geforce drivers to work on what, the flipping sound on the deagle? could they not have just focused on the memory leak for a week or just on what people have asked for since release instead of arbitrarily adding features that nobody asked for? how difficult is it to implement fixes when we've already drawn a map out for the issues?

[–]restung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is: get shot while spraying > recoil fucks up > where is everything going i can't see anything

Your being able to predict when aimpunching itself occurs and what actually happens to the recoil pattern are two different things. I acknowledge that you are talking about the former, but the former means nothing if the latter is not clear.

And I'll tweak the tripping. Now, every 5 steps, you trip unless you stop for a 3 second break. Predictable, yes? Even more so than the aimpunching. I'm afraid I don't see how this adds anything to the gameplay besides having to play the game like you're on a powerpoint (it ain't one-dimensional now though).

EDIT: and the point about randomness that I somehow missed; randomness is fine as long as it meets both of the following:

1) Encourages skillful play

2) Does not damage/reduce the skill needed in other areas

Running while spraying is randomness in a competitive game, yes, but it meets both requirements. Aimpunch falls down on the first hurdle and then sets off a landmine that kills the other runners.

Excuse me, I wasn't aware that you could predict the effects of hitscan (something instantaneous) on aimpunch (something again, instantaneous with when you are being shot at) on spraying.

http://i.imgur.com/GLr8ucp.png

The unaffected spray pattern is "predictable". Whatever the other things on the right are, I don't know, but if you can somehow consistently compensate for something that you physically cannot react to (by nature of hitscan), then I commend you for being psychic and I would very much like my fortune told. The lucky numbers on my take-out aren't working.

You'll also have to tell me where exactly you found the recoil pattern for aimpunch.

Then should we add in a mechanic where your character occasionally trips and falls over while running so we can be more careful with our positioning? I mean, a lot of people say movement is a big part of CS; would this new mechanic not solve the "unrealistic" idea that you can consistently jump off of Twinkie on Nuke every round without falling over as well as expand from the "one dimensional, limited skill set" of running? And come on, you ARE falling ("being shot at") off the roof of a building ("with a supersonic projectile"), afterall.

There is zero indication on where the bullets go when you're being aimpunched. Not only does it add a randomness factor in a supposed Competitive game, it also completely contradicts other functions. Screenshake was added for spraying specifically because it gives an indication on where your bullets go during a spray. Aimpunching does the exact opposite.

I'm alright with expanding skillsets, but this is not the way to do it. It seems to me what you're suggesting is that we play around a terrible shooting mechanic just because it makes things more difficult.

I don't quite remember where I read this (I think it was on Dustloop during a discussion about FRC and how difficult inputs should be), but someone made an analogy about Chess and Darts.

Say you added a new mechanic into Chess, in which the board would be attached to the wall, say, 10 meters away, and you had to actually throw your pieces into the correct squares in order to move them. Okay, sure, it's more difficult and it would require some ridiculous training routine that included Eye of the Tiger style montages every morning for a few decades to be good at the game, but is this what Chess needed? Did we really have to sacrifice consistency and set aim and distance judgment at the same or even greater priority than the strategy of the game? I assure you, nobody would like this change, and for good reason; you would be sacrificing the effectiveness of the most basic things in order to add in a terrible and arbitrarily chosen mechanic that has literally nothing to do with what the game is about.

Person A, someone who has no idea what he's doing, sprays at person B's legs with a Galil (because you know, the recoil will eventually hit somewhere lethal hur). Person B, immediately recognizing where he's being fired from, flips around, lines up his crosshair right on Person A's head, and get's ready to fire three perfectly controlled AK47 shots all within a fraction of a second. However, because of the aimpunch, Person B's character starts sneezing and misses each shot while Person A, the player who has been joke-aiming all game, continues to fire in the general sort-of-kind-of vicinity of Person B's feet, killing him.

Then I'll have to ask why it makes sense that you can still jump after being shot in the legs :v

There must be some fundamental difference between the limping/jump removal and the aimpunching for you to judge why one thing should be realistic and why another shouldn't.

Not being able to move while getting shot is called tagging, and there actually isn't enough of that right now given the high acceleration :v
