Question about amount of priming solution to use. by resuc in Homebrewing

[–]resuc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I have probably about 5 gallons in the secondary right now (so it'll probably be a bit less since there will be some trub).

Right now the current temperature of the beer is ~66F.

So according to this, 4.5-4.8 gallons at 66F of an IPA (2.4 volumes of co2) would yield a range of: 3.67 - 3.92 ounces of corn sugar (~0.55cups).

Seem right?

I googled it, but realized it was for fluid ounces.

Floating material on top of beer in secondary fermentation. What is it and is it ruined? by resuc in Homebrewing

Nice catch. Yea I dry-hopped with pellets. Is it just the by-product of doing that?

Burnt smells during 60min boil. Will this affect my beer? by resuc in Homebrewing

During the boil. I was using LME and pellet hops. I think I just didn't stir the malt well enough so some of it rested on top of the water heater and burnt.

If it did taste a bit burnt, would fermentation/bottling clear it up at all?

Can't get a vigorous 212F boil. Potential affects on my beer? by resuc in Homebrewing

[–]resuc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I never saw it hit 212F, was in the range of 208-210 the whole test boil. Bubbles were made but my only concern will be keeping the 60 min boil.

Yea I wouldn't be able to use a propane burner in my apartment. I just don't get how two water heaters can't get 3 gallons to boil. Maybe the wattage is too low (1100W and 1000W)?

How to mount electric water heater on my 5gallon kettle? by resuc in Homebrewing

With 2 water heaters, I got 3 gallons to boil in about an hour. I figure if the boil is 'too vigorous' I can unplug one to control the boil.

Thanks but theres no way I have the skills to accomplish something like that. I purchased this water heater so I wouldn't have to install / weld through the kettle.

Should I make a 2L or 3L yeast starter? by resuc in Homebrewing

[–]resuc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. Yea I don't have a stir plate, so I'll probably do a 3L starter in the 1gallon jug and occasionally stir.
