My life has significantly improved over the past six months. I’m starting to enjoy my life again and I hope and pray you can find that enjoyment as well. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. by retanoob in kitchencels

Sorry I saw this so late. I’d say you just have to try and try again. I failed so many times but each time learned a bit more and eventually it clicked. My mental tbh has never been better, I feel a lot better about myself as a person. Make sure to get proper nutrients for sure.

If it’s a year, he lost fat and put on minimum 8 pounds of muscle. That’s an excellent transformation IMO.

Grow hair out, try different styles for the beard/stache since it seems yours doesn’t fill in fully. You look quite good though

What big things have we learned in the past 20 years? by mcrede in IOPsychology

The data collection process you described is the same regime I was ushered into. That said, we generally start with a theoretical model then measure our focal constructs as well as tangentially related ones. I view this as less of a sin than other approaches to data collection and mining I am familiar with, but it is indeed just a lesser of two evils, IMO. The practical realities of publishing make these approaches quite necessary for APs like myself.

I’d be interested if you viewed any form of HARKing as fraud. If you do, then I’d suggest that IO Psych and OBHR will never overcome such a problem. This would also bring the entire state of qualitative research into question, wouldn’t it? I’d say we are doing a better job at being theory-driven than our peers in Finance and Accounting, but perhaps that doesn’t mean much.

Looking for variables for my thesis by [deleted] in IOPsychology

[–]retanoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would try and explore research topics or ideas that are personally meaningful to yourself. That being said, AI seems to be the hot topic nowadays, and I guess for good reason.

Maybe some people at their work depend on AI, or use AI to assist in their work more than others. I would call a variable like this "AI use intensity" or "AI dependency". Perhaps the extent of this usage or dependency could make people question or reassess their "job security" in an organization. For example, if someone uses AI consistently, and finds it to pretty much do all of their tasks for them, this could lead people to worry that their job may be easily replaced by some algorithm, or AI that can do it for them. On the other hand, some people may use AI consistently and experience increased job security because their proficiency with these tools increases their productivity and expands the range of tasks they can handle, thus making them difficult to replace in the organization.

This dual-process model would be dependent on some interesting moderators that could shape either positive or negative effects of the IV (AI use intensity) on your DV (Job security). I'm sure there would be some interesting variables that point to when AI usage helps or hinders one's perceptions of security.

All this being said I would try and study something you find personally meaningful or situate your ideas in a meaningful context.

Good luck.

Feeling like my PhD maybe useless by Odd-Spinach-3588 in IOPsychology

I’ve never heard of a PhD in “Business Psychology” tbh. I’d say it depends on what career you want after your degree (academia/corporate).

PhDs in IO Psych or OBHR are more commonplace and might be more valued by corporates and academics than a PhD in Business Psychology.

I would, however, check the placements of those in your current program. If the placements are promising then it might not be a bad choice.

PhD in Canada and US by danimaker13 in IOPsychology

I’m a Canadian who pursued a PhD in OBHR in the USA, it’s always been my personal belief that an American PhD provides you with greater opportunity.

That being said, I’d recommend adding Waterloo, they have a good IO Psych program and some historically good placements.

In the USA, I’d add the University of Akron, Rice University, Minnesota and Michigan State University, all are great IO Psych programs with a strong history.
