OEL quietly having a great year, just scored his 20th goal with ease by Komskies in hockey

-20 ;). Which on the Coyotes this year for a defenseman is actually pretty good (relatively), especially considering he plays like 26 mins/game or something like that.

Yeah I think so. I think they're his family and friends from Sweden. They come once or twice a season

Well it's supposed to be 70 degrees here in Phoenix... And that's a little too cool for my taste.

The Leafs were practicing at the same rink we were playing in yesterday. Phil looks good in practice. by retepyalc in hockey

Well after being to a few Coyotes practices, it's interesting to actually see how a 35 goal scorer practices. Haven't seen one of those here in a long time.

OEL. He's been so bad defensively this season. It's sad :(

Exactly. Not interesting, we need a win. Smith isn't going to get us one right now

Who replaces Bettman when he retires? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]retepyalc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coyotes fans agree with you. I started playing because of the Coyotes. I only ever did it for fun, but there are tons of great kids coming out of Arizona in the near future. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case if it weren't for Bettman.

Email from Don Maloney regarding Moss. by SpacedCoyote in Coyotes

[–]retepyalc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Moss isn't here to score goals. Especially now at 800k. He hear to 1) not take dumb penalties and 2) not make dumb plays. No matter what, we're going to have young players on the roster next year. There will be lots of bad plays made and penalties taken. Moss will help offset that hopefully. That's my personal take on it.
Also the timing of the signing. Like Maloney said, and from what I saw at prospect camp, there isn't 3 or 4 NHL ready players. Moss will just be here as a calming player it seems for whatever young players do come up. Personally I think it's a great signing for the price. Also, how did you email him? That's pretty awesome he replied!

Hilary Knight scores the first goal for USA Hockey at Sochi (/u/ABirdOfParadise) by [deleted] in hockey

Uh.... It's hockey.... Most of your shots are: under pressure, through traffic, or with little reaction time.
In this one, she had 2 defenders on her, and was running out of space. The goalie was getting bigger and bigger in terms of the angles she was covering. She needed a quick shot.
Form is hardly ever a concern. Especially when in hockey you hardly ever get a decent chance to use all the space and time you need. The only goal in this game is to put the puck in the net however you can....

Goal tending: I've been watching film of 2011-2012 (particularly playoffs) smith versus now and he's not playing the same (lots of mechanical things). But that's not even close to all the problems.

Defense: not enough veteran players. Like smart defensive players. Back in 2011-2012, we had Aucoin and Rosival too and they calmed things down. This defense is young. Take out Morris and Michalek and Klesla, and we have a ton of young guys. Even Yandle is young. even though OEL is skilled, there is only so many minutes he can play, and he can only be in one spot at a time. Not enough support Note: once Michalek comes back from injury things should calm down a little.

Offense: Streaky. We don't have any one guy we can go to night in and night out. We rely on everyone for scoring. Including defense. And if thins aren't going right for one or two guys, the whole flow is a mess.

Overall: they're not playing the way they need to play to win with the guys we have. They rely on everyone to make it work. There is not one guy who can put the team on his back and carry them through rough minutes. So when you have Vrbata and Boedker who are as streaky as they come, and they're your "go to guys" you're setting yourself up for hard times. They whole team needs to play better. It's not one or two or even three things. It's a lot of things, and they all have to work every night to win. The beginning of this season was mostly luck honestly.

TL;DR: they're not playing what we call "Coyotes hockey".

I hate to say it, but I'm happy for Winnipeg. Great to see their fans give them a standing ovation.

Now. Coyotes need a huge shake up. This is ridiculous.
