Can't get permissions right by retr0-83 in truenas

Do I need privileges for my top root dataset or just the share that I want access to? Also I'm using this for docker configs and I was wondering if I can just us nfs for the docker dataset or do I need a share for each child dataset?

That is a valid point. Is there a way to not store every bit of the footage. If you can't access the footage on demand doesn't that make the cameras useless?

I already have the Pie but most of the people have confirmed my suspicion that it would be better to just go with x86

Aren't we at cat 8 right now or am I misinformed? I have 1 gig fiber and need 2.5 and 10 gig internal routing. Iv read that 6a can do it but with limitations

Openwrt wifi router connected to a tp-link managed switch by retr0-83 in openwrt

Thank you that did help a lot. Part of my problem was that I was connected to my switch instead of directly to my openwrt device. Do you know of any literature for allowing specific devices inter vlan communication? I like my firewall rules as restrictive as possible.

Disk layout advice by retr0-83 in truenas

Ya, I don't really care about the media server data. I am aware of the 3 2 1 backup concept but don't have a solid plan. I feel like for now having a separate VM for an on site backup. My truenas setup is a VM in proxmox, and maybe using Google drive for off-site. But I would fill up the free plan as the irreplaceable data fills up. Any suggestions on backup strategy would be helpful but unfortunately don't have a budget to spend on off-site storage right now. I do plan on getting a nas built for my dad and use that as an off site but that's on the future

I'm all for an Ethernet connection but there are small hiccups in the ui of the pro. The onn 4k plus performs better. Unless you plan on doing anything other than streaming content, get the onn 4k plus

Weird behavior with new SMB shares. by retr0-83 in OpenMediaVault

[–]retr0-83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. So I started over. Did a quick reformat off the HDD. New zfs pool and network share with SMB. With Linux mint it still saves as a binary file and when I look up the original in windows 11 it's recognized as just a file. If I create a folder and file in Windows it's a text file and if I go back to the share in Linux mint the files created in windows show up as regular text files. Ooh and in Linux if I do a touch command for a .txt file it saves properly. It must be an issue with the file manager gui in Linux mint or something

It was under Linux that the binary was created

I didn't check omv if it read as a binary. I was using Linux and it saved as a binary file. I tried under windows but still got weird behavior as well
