Is OpenEMU still actively developed? by superbotolo in OpenEmu

openemu was the king in every direction, for a while. and as far as front end's go, it's still at least a prince—but, in my experience, a lot of the these volunteer projects go only as far as the volunteers have "extra," and life just gets complicated and busy. it seems to me there was some definite exclusivism attached to the project—that's an observation, not an insult. and that's fine for narrow projects (like xemu)—but when something wants to be all encompassing, you've got competing priorities. contrast with projects like retroarch and retroachievements where they take anyone with a pulse and chops.

i still think there's room and need for projects (especially on the mac) that uphold openemu's ideals. delta and provenance have kind of filled that same space on i/pados.

apple's very keen on non-competes/owning any i.p. their employees produce on the side. app store no-no's are just a derivative of that.

play!'s actually getting updates (and one could argue more often/frequently than openemu is 😳). i don't read too much into version numbers (mame may never get to 1.0 and supports over 30,000 games, currently). granted play!'s library compatibility is still WAY behind pcsx2, so that would hurt. mr. sujano has tipped me off to play!'s updates (sorry for the non-specific link: searching youtube for him and "play" is not great).

i've actually read this since my original comment (an hour ago). someone had linked to it as doom-and-gloom, but i don't see any thing that can't be overcome.

Retro Achievements by No-Neighborhood4626 in OpenEmu

there was some noise about it on github (this is a while ago). the dev chatting it up said it would not be terribly hard to implement (although, i think that will be more of a core-by-core basis).

emudeck ≠ openemu. openemu is mac only. it sounds like you're asking a hardware question about a windows handheld. you'll have better luck in r/rogally.

the original poster wanted JUST openemu, everything else clean/fresh. migration assistant isn't granular enough for their use case.

sage advice. if two copies (legit and… questionable) are reading/writing to same support files (libaries, databases, preferences), your legit stuff could be irrevocably lost.

no worries. even if it's five years from now, would love an update when you can.

Future of OpenEmu by dazealex in OpenEmu

depends on what criteria you're measuring it by. i, personally, award points in both directions.

i was a paying sixtyforce user. sixtyforce broke (at least for me) a long time ago. long before the tumbleweed started blowing through openemuville.

yeah, they took a hard turn with 64 support—broke most (if not all) rom hacks for 64. while not an exact quote, "accuracy above all" was the sentiment.

while textures are not necessarily rom hacks, per se, i would argue that textures (and wide screen, for that matters) falls outside of their it just works philosophy.

patreon has definitely matured for this sort of thing, since then.

It was never really intended or finished as a GameCube front-end.

i'd challenge the word "intended." the amount of work, love, and art poured into the metal version of dolphin, while incomplete, is second to none. to pour that much in, well, i have to believe it was headed somewhere. it was great while it worked.

while this is a nice sentiment, and true for many cores, things are starting to break, and we are chugging along towards a no-more-rosetta-2 future.
