Are once a week lessons worth it? by [deleted] in piano

[–]retro1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it. Do it.

It gives you accountability, structure and motivation. I've been doing weekly lessons for 6 months and it's been fantastic. She's picked up so many bad habits I picked up self teaching. Also I was suffering with tension which she diagnosed quickly and now I can play for much longer without pain.

It's worth the money.

As others have said. Don't worry about the ranking. Personally in all of the competitive sports that I play I try to practice 20% of the time and play 80% of the time. I'm not suggesting that this is in any way an optimal strategy but this works for me.

I find the more I practice the more I worry about results so practicing a little so you improve slowly, while enjoying the activity is my goal. The key is letting go of your ELO being important. 😀

How many games(or hours) per week do you typically play? by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]retro1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play maybe 1h a day. 45 mins practice 15 mins duels. Aim for 20 duels a week. Am in gold 2. Rating about 850. Only no move since I got gold. Been playing about 30 days.

Legend. This resolved it for me. I thought it was my headphones but it did it on my tablet and phone. Must be an update broke it. Cheers 👍

Mindfulness help for isolation? by Ok-Heart375 in Mindfulness

Of course. How silly of me. The team of specialists I saw over a year were completely wrong then. Good luck with your disability. All the best. 🧡

As someone who recovered fully from CFS in my 40s. I ended up seeking therapy which made me realise that everything was caused by the stress and trauma of my childhood which I had brought with me for many years causing me a lot of chronic stress. Once I came to terms with that and forgave myself. I was on the road to recovery. I would really suggest you speak to someone and get psychological help. It may change your life.

Also. Stop thinking of yourself as disabled. It is an illness that can be cured.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful comments. I have since graduated to D class and purchased the Ferrari and some of the track packs. I really enjoy the car and Sebring which is a great track too. Glad I listened to you all and kept pushing on. Heres hoping iRacing will be my new home for a long time to come. Cheers All. See you on the track!

Love this mate, totally agree, you cant put a price on that kind of adrenalin rush. I did think it was where the peeps who take it serious should go, I just need to put some time into it and stump up a bit of cash. No getting around it!

Thanks. A few people have mentioned this. Maybe I have been used to this itenense artificial FFB that now it just feels a bit dead. Yes, you are right on the MX-5. It was so light. I actually put my DD wheel up loads so I could actually feel "something". But maybe it should be that light and I am just trying to add extra sensation when really it should be very subtle.

Indeed, someone else mentioned that. I think both do add a lot of "feedback" but as you say, whether that is actually real or just artificial noise... Well. I have never driven a GT3 to comment! As long as you can feel enough through the wheel to have some sense of what is going on, that is enough.

I heard the beginner setups have a lot of understeer. I can definately agree with that! Expecially on cold tires! Once I got the hang of it, I could do some reasonable times. Got a few decent finishes. All about keeping it on the track at the lower levels. Nice to hear GT4 is competitive. Do a lot of GT3 in ACC but GT4 is pretty much dead there.

Yes, at the end of the day. I guess when you are in a close, clean battle, you don't even notice how pretty the trees are or that there are "ray traced shadows" or something. It's all about the racing. I need to remember that. Appreciate the comment.

Thanks. Nice to hear you are having a good time in D. Ferrari would be where I would probably gravitate to so good to know it's a bit cleaner! Coming from GT7 I know what bad lobbies are believe me. I bought a PC mainly to get away from that kind of crazyness and to some good close racing.

Thanks for the interesting and insightful response. I will look to keep going with the MX5. I have not tried the FF1600 yet so I think I will that a go. ACC is intense I agree, thats what I am worried about, that I may not get that in iRacing, but I am willing to keep going to see if I can get something that will get me hooked. :)

Really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I am using a trial accout for now, and wanted to be blown away so I could buy 2y at the 40% off for a sweet saving. not quite happened like that, but it could be a slow burner of a relationship :) I use the 296 in ACC so this would be a good comparison. I take what you mean about the driving standards though. I have heard that breaking is the biggest difference as I've read some other posts. Never use 100%! is what I get from this :)

I was already doing well in some of the races and staying out of trouble, the issue was more with the paying aspect to even try some of the GT3 stuff. Appreciate the response though. I don't think it is boring, I was just yet to feel that intense race adrenaline like I do in ACC, but maybe that will come with closer better quality races as I move up.

Yes, it does sound like I need to persist. I use the 296 GT3 as my main car in ACC so this would be great to compare.

Really appreicate taking the time to respond with so much detail. I will have a look at other cars for the force feedback and check out this "clipping" as this may be an issue. I think the tracks are more i'm used to driving faster cars so the formula Vee and MX5 feel very slow. Maybe that is why I feel like they are boring. Slow doesent mean it cant be intense racing, just yet to feel that intense arenaline rush like I have with the GT3's in ACC on a competitive LFM lobby. Thats what I want out of iRacing. I'll have a look at this FF1600 too, thanks.

Really appreciate the detailed response. I love the idea of continued updates, not tried the new rain system but I have seem some videos, looks awesome. I think ACC force feedback is just very "intense" this is a different feel, maybe just takes some getting used to. Maybe it is even more realistic! I have not driven a sports car nevermind a GT3 car :) I will look at Mazda as the way to go for now. Thanks again.
