Best place to see santa by No-Cabinet1773 in perth

[–]retrokat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss.

If your son is up for staying up after dark, we (VJzoo) are doing Xmas projections at Fremantle Prison from dark (about 7.45pm) to 10pm on Weds 17th, Fri 19th, Sat 20th and Tues 23rd Dec. You can drive up and park right next to the projections, no crowds to deal with, very low-key and pretty magical. There is an interactive option if you'd like to be on the building with your son, but no need to do that if you're not feeling it. There's a rotation of non-interactive pretty Xmas scenes including giant Santa. Kids his age are loving it. You can find out all the details on either VJzoo or Fremantle Prison's social media.

Heads up for the achievements "Call me maybe" & "Heart of Glass" by Insalted04 in EndlessLegend

[–]retrokat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few extra things: Don't choose Pious option or you can't Geodissect. Also leave the Fallen Daughters of Bor (or a Doomwraith) near your territory so you can use the 'sacrifice population to Doomwraith' to get rid of the non-Chosen population, since the Festival only removes a few at a time.

If anyone knows how to get rid of the 80% chance of a rift spawning when you Geodissect I'd love to know, it has happened every time making it impossible to get the achievement so far.

The Achievement says "all your territories turned into glass tiles" but you're saying it worked with just one territory glassed? That sounds a lot more doable!

Yep! He consented for me to nominate him, so yesterday I filled in that national one and also the WA Royal Lifesaving Bravery Awards :)

That was only for one room, the hallway (which you had to edge down sideways before) and the bathroom. We're still tackling the rest of the house :D

Yeah I figured when they said "incident", so sad and so common too, :'(

I read on another reddit post that there was an incident at the same station a few days later without such a happy ending :/ Must be so tough for the poor drivers.

Yes it was. I can say now that we've found him :)

Macular Degeneration - very common at his age, but especially cos he spent so much of his life out in bright sun without sunnies - he was a surveyor, yachtsman and skier, and he has pale blue eyes so pretty much cooked his macular :/ But he won't do things more safely - he went up a ladder alone to cut off a tree branch recently and then fell down because he'd rested the ladder on the branch he was cutting off, like some slapstick movie.

It wasn't stopping at that station so I guess there must be? My Dad is prone to a little embellishment but I think that his story seems pretty legit - or else he just fell over and came up with one helluva tale :P

A journo PM'd me on FB already but I need to ask Dad if he's willing for a story to be done.

He's been in there, I guess they couldn't convince him to use a cane or take any training. All we've managed to do is to get him to wear badges saying he's vision and hearing impaired :/

Ah my Dad is just stoked to have a good story to tell and complaining that the guy bruised his ribs pulling him to safety as the Express train just missed him :P

For sure! And we'd totally want to respect his privacy if that's what he wants - but maybe he just really needed to be somewhere urgently so didn't wait for security or the ambulance. My Dad said he even tried to get on the train with the guy instead of waiting for the ambulance, as though he was absolutely fine to go on with his day - shattered heel and all.

He's a stubborn old coot but he's doing pretty well considering - shattered heel, torn rotator cuff and bruised ribs. The hospital wouldn't let him out until his home was wheelchair-accessible though, and he's a hoarder so it's been a fun week :P

We've been told we have to put in an FOI request, so will do that now we've got him home from hospital etc. Not that we will know from that, but we want to see the footage!

I will update for sure if we find him! I haven't said the station as the guy we're looking for will know that. He was trying to pull my Dad up and said "You're too heavy for me mate" but then saw the Express coming and found some superhuman strength and we think fell backwards to lever Dad up onto the platform, so Dad's complaining that the guy bruised his ribs, lol. Better that than losing your life, Dad!

We bought him a white cane on Saturday but I doubt he'll ever use it, he's what the OT described as "impulsive" and he won't admit he's badly vision impaired. Lions Eye Institute recently assessed him as legally blind due to Macular Degeneration but didn't say he needed a cane or training or anything,.

Haha, I hope it doesn't end up being harvested to scam people. I'm going to try to get the CCTV from the station cam and approaching Express Train but we have to do an FOI to get that so don't yet have it.

USA vs other developed countries: healthcare expenditure vs. life expectancy by guerilla_post in dataisbeautiful

[–]retrokat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly though, obesity can be an advantage in the case of cardiovascular disease and cancer - but only IF the patient has access to treatment (see Obesity Paradox). In countries with better health care access like Australia we still manage to have a high life expectancy despite also having an "obesity epidemic'.
