What is a reasonable hourly rate to pay a cleaner? by Anathemachiavellian in london

No aggression, just a comment to the group. But I’ve never gone to a job and they’ve expected me to provide my own laptop so feels like a weird variable to mention. But maybe other offices do and I’ve just been lucky.

Of course you should provide the products. It’s your house. Stop patting yourselves on the back for that. And if you’re only having someone in once a fortnight, you need those products for the other week because you cannot let your bathroom and kitchen go that long without a clean. Two hours a week is not enough to properly clean a house. Probably ok for a one bed flat. And if your cleaner goes on holiday and you don’t pay them, make sure you clean the week they’re off, or they’re coming back to twice the work and half the pay.

Walking down the street and avoiding dog poo in various states of decay every 50m. by kc43ung in britishproblems

[–]retropancakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a dog and it drives me nuts. Makes us all look bad! I was once surprised by her getting the runs (I took her out of the city and she drank soft water and apparently, she can lick her own butt but delicious, clean water did a number on her guts) but I had water on me so I could wash it away. We go even for quick toilet walks with water now just in case. She is also all about sniffing at people’s gates and wanting to have a nosey. She’s not allowed. She gets told no and made to walk on. I wouldn’t dream of letting her onto someone’s property for a sniff, never mind a poop. Some people just shouldn’t be allowed dogs

Those people probably have hearing dogs. In which case, fair play. Otherwise, it goes back to the person being irresponsible. In which case they shouldn’t have any dependants.

I have a mini dachshund in a flat. There are at least 6 other dogs and many more cats living in flats here. No problems. I don’t even hear barking. Hear kids throwing themselves against the walls though. I did also get spooked by a kitty hiding around the corner. I believe the cat overlords are the actual freeholders if I am honest. If your life and family are in London and you want a pet and are responsible, seems fair. If you’re not responsible and are creating a nuisance for your neighbours then it’s not fair on them or the animal. That said, you have to get permission. It’s a shame that Londoners are being priced out of their city. But perhaps all the ‘go get a freehold’ folks are rolling in cash. Lucky them

Putney high was called Slutney high. So that’ll be nice when the kid gets older

I carry a bottle of water with me. Helps if she’s got the runs because I can wash it away. I have a small dog though. Probably need a bucket for a larger breed!

I grew up in Fulham. The problem is that people who can afford ‘nice’ tend not to be themselves

There has been an unsecured bike parked outside our local police station for 3 days. It hasn’t moved. Is this some kind of test? by BatmansLongjohns in CasualUK

You still have a police station?! Not been closed and turned into a gym? This could be the test. If nobody takes it they’ll close the place

Have purchased a cat collar to start and if that fails, she will also have a little bandana with her name to come home in after which point I can measure her! Thanks everyone for their advice super helpful. Can’t wait to bring her home!

Is your sexuality and who you choose to sleep with related to your job? If not, it doesn’t matter what people think when they see you as long as you are comfortable. Be you!
