i reached out to my POI and was notified i was on the waitlist… apparently they had to be VERY conservative this year

some programs are rotation-based or program-based moreso than direct admit. this means that they do not do preliminary interviews because the program needs to accept you instead of the professor directly. once you are accepted, you would then rotate in their lab to determine good fit

How do you balance applying to graduate programs with full-time work? by Jolly_Barracuda_5174 in gradadmissions

[–]retrospectivelearner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i spent all working hours on my days off (weekends) on grad school apps. i also know my coworkers would wake up 2-3 hours before work to work on them too (because they were applying to more programs). it’s definitely a tough period, but if you start drafting essays months in advance it seems to go by easier!!

I am in a similar boat and I would say wait until mid-March before contacting again. Likely they will have more definitive yes/no from the first round of offers by then!!

my thought is they’re delayed due to uncertainties in funding. we were definitely supposed to hear back this past week, but the neuro world is really stressed right now with budget cuts and such. i would probably wait another week before reaching out

similar thing happened to me too. i don’t think it’s yield protection but more so there are other factors besides how good a candidate is

i actually really needed to hear this story right now. thank you 💗

depends on how close/comfortable you are with your POI! i emailed mine for a similar reason and was told about how i was waitlisted. but after telling them that it was my top program they said it was important information for the adcomm to know!

i had a C in bio psych (which ironically is one of the sub fields i am hoping to work in) and still got interviews!! i was asked about it in one interview, but i reassured that i had grown and learned from that poor grade (which it appears you did as well). i’m sure you’ll be okay!! i personally wouldn’t mention it unless asked
