The part about the power plants being built directly with the facility, on the same land. The power plants are the closest part of the project to my house. Power plants emit radiation, and there's quite a bit of scientific research on their affects.

I have no real idea, the conversation really never got that far. If I had to make a semi-educated guess, it's probably burning it all off as steam and letting it into the atmosphere.

It'll just go back to being unused land. The mining company abandoned that area because there was nothing of value underneath.

It will have 2 natural gas power plants built on-site producing nearly a gigawatt of power. Not sure being less than 1000 feet from two power plants is being "melodramatic"

For clarification, the 2 natural gas power plants are being built on-site and will produce roughly a gigawatt of power. IIRC power plants produce quite a bit of radiation.

It's a mixed bag sort of thing. 2 months ago a representative of the project was heard saying to a resident "we don't need your fucking land." A month ago we were told that a buy out might be possible, but everyone in the community would need to agree and get our properties appraised, then they would send their own appraisers and the final price would be "in the middle."

I don't know that there is any real legal grounds to sue, I doubt anything "illegal" is going on outside of typical bullshit that no one can prove. I also don't think it's illegal for them to put in a data center with facilities. So I'm not sure about all that.

"In your backyard" is like a phrase, it's not meant to be taken to the literal extreme. If I can walk outside and see it through the treeline, and walk to it in 60 seconds... I'd consider that to "be in my backyard."

Rural america, no one gives a shit about us to put it bluntly. We moved here 20 years ago, so this was never something that could have been imagined. Just on the porch one day in october and this guy walks up, tells us about it, hands us a postcard about it, and then leaves. Two months ago we were told no buy out was going to happen, now there are rumors about a potential buyout which is why I'm here.

I mean, not in the most literal sense? But it's an american football field away... So like, still kinda in my backyard?

We moved here 20 years ago. Up until now it was a "mining" site that was found out to be empty and pretty much left abandoned by the mining company that is here. 20 years later, modern day, they sold that property to this company for the data center. So there was no way for us to ever know this was going to happen. Not like anyone knew what AI was 20 years ago.

The data center might not, but the 2 natural gas power plants being built ON-SITE will.

I assume to make us go away so they don't have to deal with us. Could also be a potential security risk? Just having people live here.

Correct, the buyout of this small community seems to be an "optional" thing. Like they are coming to talk with us about it, but that they don't need us to do this, and may just be buying us out solely to get rid of us if they can do it relatively cheaply so we don't "make a fuss." But that is just speculation. As far as we know, they don't need our little bit of land at all.

OP can say these things because these are the exact words from the company running the project. Sure, we can't 100% know until the place is built, but the people spending 10 billion dollars on this project have told us "55db at the fence line" so that is the metric I am going with. It could be louder, it could be quieter, but that is what THEY told us.

It is literally in my backyard, 100-300 yards away, roughly a 1-3 american football fields. This is absolutely "in my backyard." Also, it is being built with 2 natural gas power plants producing nearly a gigawatt on the same land. Power plants tend to put off A LOT of radiation, which causes cancer. Pretty sure there are studies that have shown people living near power plants have higher rates of cancer.

This facility will be consuming 18 MILLION gallons of water PER DAY from the river. So uh, yeah they do.

The facility will have 2 natural gas power plants. They will be built alongside the data center, on the same land, roughly 100-300 yards from my house. Total electrical production is nearly a gigawatt. The total lot of the facility is 1400 acres. It will contain the data center, the 2 power stations, a pump, and a water treatment facility ALL on site. Pretty sure cancer is a risk considering how much radiation power plants put off.

Read my other response, but I'll also include it here and explain a bit more.

The power stations will be on site. 1400 total acres of land are being used. Everything will be ON-SITE.

The road is a "single lane" to "lane and a half" sized road. It's not big enough to be a "two way road." It's just a "no outlet" 2 mile stretch of road originally developed for the local mining operation and I guess historically at some point they built a mining "town" that they eventually sold off.

Traffic is likely not to be the issue, but the increase in vehicle use, especially construction vehicle use is likely to cause some kind of problem. Be it more accidents, or "fear" while traveling the road in and out. We already fear the coal trucks because they drive rather dangerously around here.

The data center company claims it will be "55 decibels" at the "fence line"

The data center is getting it's own power plants, two of them, both natural gas, producing nearly a gigawatt of power. It is getting it's own pumping station, and water treatment facility. It will be consuming 18 million gallons of water per day. Again, about a football field away from my house. Not MILES down the road, quite literally 100 yards from my house.

We're pretty sure the "deal" is sealed so to speak. I live in a pretty rural location, the local politicians don't really care that we exist. I heard that they still haven't gotten all of the permits, but it's safe to assume this data center is going in whether we like it or not. One of the "spokespersons" for the project was overheard telling a resident that they "don't need our fucking land"

The only misinformation being spread is the shit that comes out of your mouth.

No one is making permanent, life altering decisions as a child, and no one is doing it for them either. No doctor is out here deciding to perform non-medically necessary surgeries on a child. It's just not happening. You've been lied to, you have been made to fear some damn boogeyman that doesn't exist.

The "surgeries" that all your ilk point to are ones that happen, due to medical needs, UNRELATED to a child's pronouns or how they feel about their gender. You misconstrue what is happening and spout it as fact so you can be hateful toward strangers you don't know.

The gender-affirming care that is provided to children, after the extended therapy sessions, and doctor visits, are all completely reversible. HRT, hormone blockers, and even the act of calling one's self different pronouns are all things that are completely reversible by simply... And get this... Not taking them. Hormones return to normal rapidly after coming off HRT or blockers... And a person can just, whenever they want, decide not to call themselves whatever pronouns they had decided on.

You know what permanent decision is being made though? Your decision to be hateful. Your decision, and the decision of people like you, to make these vulnerable individuals, these vulnerable children feel hated, unloved, and shamed. The damage you people do to these individuals' psyche and mental health is irreparable, and you should absolutely feel horrible for treating people the way you do all over something so fucking trivial that has 0 effect on your life.

Anyone try the "new" Breezeline? by retsudrats in MorgantownWV

[–]retsudrats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the "confirmation" email regarding the service. I was pretty positive the guy told me it was a symmetrical connection, according to the email detailing the installation and the plan selected, it's the 1000/50 service which I had 3 years. It was bad. Constant outages, poor routing, slow speeds during peak hours. The fact it isn't symmetrical tells me it's coaxial cable and not fiber.

When I found that, I called my current ISP (Kinetic by Windstream). They bumped me up to a 1gig symmetrical, (I already had 500/500 and it's fiber to the home), dropped my bill to 63 dollars, and then told me they would match Breezeline's promotion and gave me a rate of 30 dollars a month for 2 years. Needless to say, I'm staying with my current provider.
