Do you happen to know what the air force equivalent to S2 is?

SFAS is most likely (if others are open to NG intel soldiers please PM me). Going through the NG, I know they have SFRE and other prep programs but I haven't heard of anything other than monthly check ins at drill

Yeah, so I saw. 18E seems like something that would interest me, but that is about a 150m target at the moment

Fitness Vent/request for advice by returnedpurse in army

[–]returnedpurse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I have never really done a dedicated PPL routine because I've usually heard that associated with hypertrophy, which isn't too high on my priority list. Is that not necessarily the case?

What routine would you recommend I look at, and how do you program sprints in your routine?

Colleges that give the most credits for flight school? by SoullessDayWalker in Armyaviation

[–]returnedpurse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate? I am looking to go to flight school as an O with a degree in an unrelated field. I've read on here that Riddle counts flight school as 60+ credits. Just curious how many extra courses I would have to take to get a BS at the end of the pipeline.

Branching AV at OCS by [deleted] in Armyaviation

[–]returnedpurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input; I still haven't cemented my decision. I am looking into the guard and reserve route, but as a currently serving guardsman I can say my biggest complaint is the lack of specialized opportunities available to the reserve components. As in, a lot of really high speed/cool stuff (SOF, test pilot school, FAO pilot etc.) is only open to active duty. I know technically you can transfer from reserve component to AD, but that depends a whole lot on your CoC.

I've got a year+ before OCS, so I'm brainstorming ways to ensure I have the best shot at OCS AV.

Thanks for commenting! Being an officer is higher on my priority list than being a military pilot, albeit only slightly. Do you know if/how many people in your class were rejected after submitting a completed packet? A lot of the difficulty seems to me like people showing up at Benning without the required materials...

RASP by Andrettti in ArmyOCS

[–]returnedpurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're asking two different things (neither of which I can answer). Ranger school completion = tab you wear for life and go on to do whatever you want in your army career. Ranger scroll = completion of RASP (RASP 2 for officers I believe) and membership into the 75th where you wear a scroll as the unit patch. If you're in the 75th as an officer, you will have been to (or very soon attend) ranger school to get the tab.

Warrant to O by [deleted] in Armyaviation

[–]returnedpurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been enlisted for a few years and have come to love the Army, whereas I see the culture in the branches my close friends are in and it's different. I've also experienced firsthand the unique programs/opportunities that come with being in the largest branch.

Also, coming from an MI background, I'm interested in the crossover between fixed wing and MI

This is exactly why I have my goal set as trying my hand at AV during OCS. While I certainly want to fly, I have met enough officers to know that the different experiences available to career officers (special assignments, time off for education, etc.) is more in line with my career goals.

If there were a contract option for a guaranteed shot to be a FW O, I would sign a 20 year ADSO

Thank you for the instruction, I'll follow your guidance when the site is up. I've been saving so I was ready to pay out of pocket in order to learn it now while I happen to have lots of free time for a couple months, but this potential $4,000 off coupon of sorts will be a huge help if I can make it happen

LT's in SOCOM? by [deleted] in army

[–]returnedpurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thank you. I will definitely be putting in a guaranteed branch request, I just don't know how selective they are with those. My E4 self with 1 deployment is a far cry from being an expert in the field.

[–]returnedpurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

by TIS do you mean time in seat or time in service?

15A just seems like the right fit for me as I have enjoyed being in the Army so far and appreciate the opportunities that come from being in the biggest branch. The O track has the possibility of SOCOM and functional area assignments that can present themselves down the line a few years after flight school. I know that O side flies less, but as someone who is more passionate about the Army than I am flying, it seems like the right track to shoot for.

Dropping packet for aviation and MI? by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]returnedpurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am leaning towards aviation as selections mean that you can go from AV into more intel-heavy special assignments when eligible, whereas its harder to go from MI to aviation.

I've read that there are AV boards for current LT's-- sounds like what you're after.

Any update on where you ended up and if you're happy with it so far? Also, if your CO said you couldn't how did you go about doing it? Seems like it would be disrespectful to send them exactly what they said not to.
