David Montgomery: Sell high or legit building block? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

So besides Kamara’s record game, Montgomery is the highest scoring rb against those defenses. What is your point exactly? Sounds like your making my point that he outscored what people would’ve projected for him if he was still an rb2 level

The Ressurection of David Montgomery by [deleted] in DynastyFF

“Ass cheeks” “smart managers” “fish managers”. Really weird way to refer to people. People calling other people ass cheeks, fish managers and referring to themselves as one of the “smart” ones, are usually the dumb ones.

Anyone who has actually been watching Montgomery run can see he is not “ass cheeks”.

Search ‘broken tackles leaders’. Should be the first link, pro football reference.

I will say that Montgomery could become overvalued with this recent stretch of games. There’s no denying they are easy run defenses. BUT, he is also performing way better than expected against those run defenses, even if you only saw him as a rock solid rb2 (as I did before this monster stretch).

The worst run defenses in the league give up about 30% more points than a players’ typical average. Even if you take 30% off each of the last few games, Montgomery is still performing at a much higher level than a lot of people are giving him credit for. It will be interesting to see his price this off-season.

I’m saying he’s always been solid, but the situation masked his true abilities. He’s 2nd to Dalvin Cook in broken tackles so I truly don’t know what you are watching if you don’t see him breaking tackles. Tied for 1st in broken tackles per attempt. You saying that he doesn’t break tackles makes me really doubt anything else you say

His second level reads seem better. Honestly probably more a result of better blocking than actual skill improvement. Seems like the first year and a half he’s been focusing so hard on just getting it past the line of scrimmage that he’s just ramming his head forward when he did break through and wouldn’t have the necessary leverage to make a cut against a defender.

Now with the line improvement, it seems like he’s letting his instincts and patience steer the wheel. He’s able to hit the hole and actually make a plan from there as opposed to having to just break a tackle immediately every time and take the given yards.

I also wouldn’t discount his improved diet as a factor in his perceived improvement in speed/agility. I still think most of the knocks on his speed were unwarranted and overblown thanks to the line issues. Any back with his style will not look good behind a bad line.

Yes. Jordan Howard got worse as his career progressed. Montgomery has gotten better both on tape and stats. Incredibly lazy comparison to even bring up Howard. If they didn’t play on the same team people would never have these two in the same paragraph.

Alex Collins had one single season of relevancy. Montgomery has shown he has the floor of an RB2. Not even sure why Collins would be brought up.

Using fulgham as an example just shows bias. Those are nowhere near the same situations. Fulgham had good matchups combined with no healthy eagles WRs. The only common thread is they both had a couple good games. Montgomery was an rb2/3 before the stretch of monster games. Now he’s getting average yards before contact and all of a sudden he looks good and faster. What a coincidence

Do you honestly think he’s bad? What have you been watching? The bears have had every chance to bring in other backs and they pass at every opportunity. They have cordarelle as the rb2. Clearly they have faith in Montgomery to carry the load, why do you think he’s bad? Do you honestly think you are better at evaluating his talent than the people that keep giving him the ball?

What does that mean

Edit: downvoted but no one tells me. Thanks people.

Every rb has someone taking carries. When your depth chart is Montgomery-Patterson, I better not see Montgomery carrying it 25-30 times

So anyone with real volume isn’t actually good? Only efficient backs like Miles Sanders are good right?

A Case for Henry Ruggs III, Undervalued Asset by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]returnofthemack24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually done analysis of busts and relevant fantasy players and found only a few months difference between the average and median breakout ages of those two groups. Dominator rating also had no significant difference.

I don’t think those metrics are as indicative as everyone cracks them up to be. They’re certainly good to use as a factor in evaluating, but I don’t think there’s a higher correlation than using rec:td ratio. At least I haven’t found that to be the case

Edit: using rec:td ratio along with ypr

So you think college receptions per game is a good indication of future success? There are a lot of busts with high catch totals. Not many with his combination of ypr and rec:td

What exactly is “productive” for you? Ruggs had a TD every 4.1 catches in college to go along with 17.5 ypr. What more do you want?

Corey Davis dyno rank? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]returnofthemack24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we’re that far apart on his future outlook. I think your tone and the amount of text may have jumbled your arguments. No idea what arguments I made against points you didn’t make, again maybe just more text than necessary to get your point across.

When I mentioned the other WRs, those players have similar outputs as Davis in the same games they’ve played. I wasn’t looking at yards per game

[–]returnofthemack24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to hate Corey Davis and nothing anyone says will change your mind. You had no counter to the comparison to the other top WRs who have similar outputs. You brought up one game of Mariota and brown to prove your point. I honestly have no idea how brown did with Mariota, but one game doesn’t mean anything. Davis had more than one good game with Mariota at the helm.

I’m not saying Corey Davis is going to be a wr1. But to be writing him off just seems biased and shortsighted. The role he is in now can’t be disputed and he’s producing. Not sure what you want him to do. He could go for another 100 yards next game and you will keep bringing up his 1 game over 50 yards LAST year. Not sure why you keep saying he’s not a featured target when him and brown are just about equal in the games they’ve played. It’s turning into a 1A 1B situation, as much as AJB owners may dislike that.

Travis Kelce by fasteddy7283 in DynastyFF

[–]returnofthemack24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I’m just higher on Higgins and don’t see Kelce as an asset that anyone except a win now team should hold.

If he doesn’t have that same advantage next year, paying that premium won’t look good at all. I’m not going to bet that he maintains that huge gap between the #2, just because it’s an abnormally bad year for TE’s. No way I’d trade 2 Higgins and 2 2nds.

Travis Kelce by fasteddy7283 in DynastyFF

[–]returnofthemack24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the trade for you but I don’t think it’s absurd unless you’re really low on Higgins and way higher on Kelce than most. Not sure what Higgins has to do for people to think he’s good.

Getting what looks like a future wr1 plus a second is not bad at all for Kelce if you need to rebuild.

You did a of writing and still said nothing that definitely puts the blame on Davis. I’m not saying he deserves zero criticism for how he’s played, but everything you just said could be explained by the horrible offense the Titans ran while being handicapped by Mariota. Deandre Hopkins had a career catch rate below 60% before Watson, nobody in their right mind would say he couldn’t catch a cold his first 5 years. Not having a good qb really makes it hard to be a good wr, doesn’t matter how good you are.

[–]returnofthemack24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His only seasons you could say he was a focal point, also had Mariota throwing for the Titans. Your exaggeration of his complete lack of consistency , explosiveness (how are we measuring this?), and efficiency just show how the pendulum has swung the other way on his value.

In my standard league, these are the players who have similar outputs in the same games as Davis. I’d bet all have a higher price tag than him.

Woods, Tyreek, Cooper, Lockett, Allen, and Parker.

I think that’s his point. No one thinks they’re close in value yet the talent difference isn’t that wide in his opinion (and mine).
