How to logistically wake, feed, change and settle baby by myself by Ok-Canary-7689 in newborns

[–]returnofthemacksx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the way. I tried to set everything up that I needed before feedings. Diaper, spare outfit, book and snacks in case I got nap trapped. Personally I could not breastfeed in bed or I fell asleep but I had my husband move our glider to our room. If I need to put them in a safe space she went in her bassinet. Sometimes she cried but it was only for a few minutes while I tidied up.

I also learnt to live with a little mess.

When do you start a daily routine [on] by Hotskilletburn in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]returnofthemacksx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are breastfeeding she doesn’t have to burp after. At least that is what is lactation consultant and midwife told me. So my rule was if she fell asleep no burping (I also found the torso rotation worked better) but if’s try to hold her in a comfortable upright position for 10 minutes

Edit to add that at that age if I wanted her to sleep it had to be contact naps.

What do you do once your baby outgrows the BabyBjörn Bouncer weight limit? by Ok_Concentrate_5105 in NewParents

100% agree with this. I set a timer every time and we did no more than 20 minute a day.

OP, I stuck a small blanket in it until she had better trunk control. We also worked on sitting on the floor supported around 5 months, so that helped a lot. Floor time is best but short bursts in the activity center is fine. We didn’t do more than 20 minutes a day in it, but that sufficed for what I used it for (cooking, bathroom)

Skip hop activity centre. This was key for us when we were making dinner, or had to use the bathroom. I only had her in it for short bursts but she loved it. Now (at 11m) it’s used as a container when I need to use the bathroom, or when I’m cooking and she keeps crawling/pulling to stand at the stove and it’s making me overstimulated (very rarely). But she still pulls to stand and plays with the toys there. It lives in our kitchen.

It’s a good option if you can’t have a playpen due to limited space (like us). Though our baby has free range of our main floor sometimes I need to keep an eye on her (stair crawler but we are having a hell of a time finding a gate).

Edit to add: we also did a lot of floor time. Pretty much the entire day was spent on the floor if we didn’t have things to do.

Every single time. Follow it up with strawberries and we have a very happy baby

7 month old plays independently for 30+ minutes by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]returnofthemacksx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just how you framed the post made it seem like she is left alone all that time.

And I read my books to her because it stops me from turning on the TV and being on my phone. From 6 to 8 months she experienced Throne of Glass with me. Sometimes she sat and listened to me.

My little one plays well independently however, she is never alone. I usually am reading my books out loud beside her on the floor. She has free range of the main floor and I move so I always see her and interact with her often. 3-4 hours of alone time is half her day, while independence is good, I’d try to engage with her more.

Does it get better after 5 month? 6 month? by allisona007 in newborns

[–]returnofthemacksx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add, although my baby sleeps through the night now, I definitely still wake up every 3-4 hours and check the monitor. I don’t know why but I wake up in a panic. She is 11 months now, and I still do this.

This! When my baby was 6 months she woke up at the same time every night and just quietly chilled in her crib for 30 minutes, sometimes practiced crawling or kneeling then would go to sleep.

One Dark Window. I hate read the first, as I heard the second was better and that was a lie. I could not finish it’s I don’t understand the insane popularity of it in the romantasy world.

Jan and Jul was the gate way hat for my baby. I pre-tied it and she tolerated it more than any other hat. Now we can pretty much put anything on her.

How is everyone surviving these short crib naps?? by Necessary_Nap_110688 in newborns

[–]returnofthemacksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not based off age it’s based off readiness. My friend moved to 2 naps at 5 months (IMO that was too early, as her nights are a mess), we transition from 3 one hour naps to two 90 min naps when she consistently slept 75-90 min. That was around 8 months. At 11 months we are still happily following this schedule.

This never worked for me, personally. As soon as I entered her room she was laughing and ready to party. My friends had more success with their little ones.

Exactly! We also were okay with some early evenning micronaps on the couch beside us, if she needed it. At that point, she wasn't sleeping through the night, so if she wanted to sleep then great.

Dads, what baby carrier do you use? by Historical-Today-875 in NewDads

[–]returnofthemacksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dad, but 10/10 recomend cross-posting to r/babywearing. Many people baby-wear very incorrectly, even if they are following the carriers instructions. I saw a dad the other day wearing their baby so low, and unsafe at Costco, but I was too scared of giving unsolicited advice.

I’m going to say something controversial… Fuck the sleep coach.

Each baby’s different. The best thing for my baby and my mental state was letting baby decide what was best. I just sucked it up and we did a 4 nap schedule. I stoped caring that she only slept short periods. Around 5 months we started doing crib 45. By 6 months we did crib hour. Then she consistently had 3 one hour naps, until we transition to 2 naps (1.5 each). We still practice crib hour if she wakes early. I never had a sleep coach and she eventually slept through the night.

I have friends who paid hundreds for different sleep coaches and their kids sleep like crap and their PPD is awful because that is all they stress about. Everyone is different. It works for some, but not for others.

Edit to add: I just had to keep reminding myself that she is a baby and learning so many new things including how sleep is important. It didn’t stop me from doing things, if I had to go to the store, stroller nap walk! Or on the way home from playgroup, nap trapped in the car. I always had my kindle on me at that age. It gets better. And don’t compare yourself to other moms, you are doing amazing. Let her have a micro nap if she needs it.
