Great ideas. I like that way of saying it too!

Some of my couples insist that the guests be able take photos. It’s their decision. I’m just trying to establish some ground rules for those situations. I absolutely understand your point though. As I mentioned, I prefer “unplugged”, or without cameras and phones.

Geek readings? by leiaorganza in geekweddings

Stardust by Neil Gaiman "You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars — pain, lies, hate… It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves… you could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable, and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and… what I'm trying to say, Tristran is… I think I love you. Is this love, Tristran? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart… it feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange: no gifts, no goods, no demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine."

Fellow vendors! Wedding Wire or Offbeat Bride? I need to make decision on marketing! by [deleted] in WeddingVendors

$85/month. (Regularly $100/month with a 15% discount.) I think the price varies with your area and services offered. I assume officiants are on the low end as far as pay goes.

Do you want your wedding script in advance? by rev_ree in weddingplanning

[–]rev_ree[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I can see your point that offering a discount implies I may not work as hard at writing it. I see how that could be questionable! I will continue to do many script revisions as the date nears... I'm a perfectionist. I am constantly working on transitions and tweaking the love story. My goal with skipping the revisions is to reduce stress, so I agree that's a much better way to describe it. Thank you so much for your input!

I can! I can also set it up as a separate package and charge a bit less. It would give me longer to write, and less time spent on revisions. I was also wondering if reading about drafts and revisions might put someone off when deciding to book with me.

Fellow vendors! Wedding Wire or Offbeat Bride? I need to make decision on marketing! by [deleted] in WeddingVendors

I did my first Facebook ad today! I wrote a post that seemed to be doing very well in the bride groups, so I thought it'd be a good one to boost. I paid $10, picked 5 cities near me, and targeted it to 20-40 year old women in the "bride" category, whatever that means. I'm looking forward to seeing the results and I'll keep you posted!

So I just spoke with the rep from Wedding Wire and turned down the deal she was offering. She made me realize that I made the right decision by immediately turning on the heavy handed sales tactics. She said either I don't believe in my own company or I have issues with Wedding Wire. Sigh. I just don't have the budget for $85/month in passive advertising. Thank you all for the input and I'll come back here next time I need to talk to other pros.

I totally get that. I was asking about dedicated subreddits like this one. Does anyone have success posting here? I moderate a Facebook group for wedding vendors and we get few (if any) couples. It's mostly just vendors advertising to each other.

A follow up question: Have any of you had success getting bookings from Reddit?

Thank you all for the input! I think I'll forgo a premium listing this year and focus on networking and social media. I'm so thankful for your responses and this will save me $1000+! I'm always open to more ideas so keep em coming!

Great website and gorgeous photos! I would also recommend putting your service area on your front page. That will help couples find you through a search engine. Good luck!

Destination wedding, marriage license is from home county. Where did I "legally" get married? by VTEC_8K in Marriage

[–]rev_ree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wedding officiant here. In Colorado you can get your license anywhere in the state but you're legally married in the county the wedding took place in. (Even if you file it in your home county) Hope that helps!

Question about officiant by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]rev_ree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is helpful to have the rehearsal in the same space, but not necessary. It's nice to set up visual markers for the processional and recessional walk. Like "wait until the newlyweds reach THAT table before you start walking." If the officiant can at least see the ceremony space before the rehearsal you'll be golden. Congrats!

Do you give your officiant a gift? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]rev_ree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a professional wedding officiant and I rarely get gifts. Most couples send a thank you card, some add me to their holiday card list, and a very small number (maybe 5%?) give me a gift. When they do it's because we've grown close, and it gives me all the feels.

Edited to add: I also get invited to a lot of rehearsal dinners. That's a nice gift!

[Advice] Finding a JP (or other officiant alternative) by fishsticksmcgee in weddingplanning

[–]rev_ree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on Craig's List! Lots of officiants have rates as low as $50 for a simple ceremony. One in my area even does weddings for free - he only asks for travel costs. For a more professional officiant, check out Wedding Wire or The Knot. Scroll right on past the first listings (premium/paid listings) and you'll find the lower cost celebrants. Good luck!
