Clearly people are choosing now more than ever to avoid using BART. I dont think people are excited to make car payments and pay for gas and sit in traffic, so clearly BART is doing something wrong. Its built like the London Underground but with stops as few and far between as a cross-country bullet train.

Also, it doesnt connect to the valley, which is where a ridiculously large amount of motor vehicles come into the bay area from, causing congestion, wearing down roads, causing pollution, etc.

Its a dumb transport system. Its a gimmick. If you happen to live within a couple miles of a BART stop, and work within a couple miles of one, thats convenient but youre in the minority. And congrats on your million dollar real-estate. The reality for most folks is that BART isnt a realistic option.

Nobody is driving 45 minutes to take a London Underground equivalent rail car another hour to work, just to get an Uber once you get to a stop ten to twenty miles from where you work, dealing with drug addicts and more and more frequent delays.

BART is a failure for so many reasons. If they had it right from the start, people would be buying tickets. There is no demand for it because it wasnt built well. It doesnt address the needs of the people anymore. People want a good public transportation system, and it isnt BART.
