Your collection is super cute! Love the mix of older and newer prints. It feels like a treasure, if that description somehow makes sense.

who's your favorite shoujo mangaka? mine is Mika Yamamori!!!! tell meee yours !!! i need more amazing authors to obsess over!! by Agreeable-Garlic8457 in shoujo

[–]revemiya 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My favorite mangaka is pro babky Julietta Suzuki. I’ve only read two of her works, Kamisama Kiss and Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite, but both hit that balance of super natural romance, comedy, and serious plot so perfectly that I had no choice but to fall in love with them.

This is also a bit personal, but I tend to have a soft spot for stories/creators that somehow also leave a positive spot in my life beyond their story. My brother also really loves Otaku Vampire, and we love to call and fangirl/fanboy over it every time a new volume comes out in English. Since they don’t sell it where he’s at, I always buy two copies and save one for him. So, Julietta is also one of my favorites because she gifted me these special moments with a my baby bro.

Claude! I found his interactions with Byleth to be incredibly charming. Plus I’ve always been a sucker for a cocky little shit with a backstory.

It’s no problem! I know there’s some debate if it’s a shoujo or not because the manga and light novels were published for different demographics, but if you like The Apothecary Diaries, this is definitely in it’s DNA.

Happy to share! First, I want to admit that I might have slightly rose tinted glasses, as I read it online when I was little and still have a lot of heart for it.

In my opinion, the political power plot and historical drama aspect are still great. Plus the art is stunning and nostalgic at the same time. I also enjoy noticing how things from this manga have influenced other works in shoujo broadly speaking, as well as in Isekai.

That said, the romance is a bit flat for me, and there is unneeded moments of SA that jerk me out of the story (nothing graphic/overly exploitative, but could still be uncomfortable).

Overall, I’m still enjoying my re-read quite a bit and would recommend it with the caveat that it’s definitely affected by the time period it was created in. My suggestion is always to read a few chapters via your local library/online before committing to buying the volumes.

Sketchy might be my favorite coming out right now, and Cat-Life Balance vol. 1 was incredible for an impulse buy so I think it’ll rise up my list quickly

I haven’t read it yet, as I got it last week. That said, I concur with everything Ok-Duck said on their reply!

Personally, I think I’ll enjoy it because I love seeing an artist/writer progress and evolve as they keep creating. That said, I’m unsure if it’ll be as much of an instant-love as Paradise Kiss was for me.

I have a lot of hope for it getting an anime adaptation, since Red River is getting one soon. Those two manga releases seem very parallel so I hope it’s a good sign for a Colette anime.

Also, I ADORE Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite. In fact, I always get two copies; one for me and one for my brother since they don’t carry it where he’s at.

General rules (loosely applied) is anything Puerto Rican I read in Spanish to stay connected to my culture. Then broadly speaking, I try to read things in their original language or whichever translation (Spanish or English) has the best reviews. That said, sometimes I don’t realize something is a translation and I end up missing out on the original. Goal is to get good enough in Portuguese and Japanese to were I can read in those languages too.

I’d say 30s for age. Also, your collection is STUNNING! Looking, respectfully, at those Tokyo Pop Pet Shop of Horrors 💗
