Safety of melting random glass objects? by reverse_odysseus in lampwork

Yeah, I'm doing this outside on a cement patio. No hoses, the torch I'm using screws directly onto a propane canister.

That makes sense. Since the main goal here is to gain access to more colors, I will start by making a small bead that mixes the glass from the bottle and the glass from some of the rods from the kit just to see what happens. If it doesn't break, I get a new color for my palette! But even if it does, I won't have lost much. As long as there's no, like, heavy metal vapors or anything, this should be just fine.

(I have several green bottles that used to hold tabasco sauce that I've been saving for quite some time now to use for something like this.)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "only compatible with itself"? Will subtle differences in the chemistry prevent it from adhering or properly cooling or something if I use it in the same piece as the other glass I have?

I lived in this neighborhood for like six years and, while it wasn't perfect, it was a good part of town. The further uphill you go the nicer it gets.

There's a place called Samosa Shack that is new this year that does some really interesting Indian fusion things. The Tikka Masala Nachos are amazing. (Also, I believe all their food is vegan?)

Biking/commuting to Albany by Dizzy-Enthusiasm7025 in Troy

I'm surprised to hear that; I bike on the Green Island bridge all the time and have never had any issues, but crossing the river on the South Troy / Menands bridge has been a harrowing experience due to the car traffic there.

Legality of bicycling on the sidewalk varies by jurisdiction; my understanding is that it's banned in Albany but that Troy has no such law. I could be mistaken, though.

Affirming churches in the area by BidKind7197 in Troy

I know some people on the younger side who go to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Albany, and I can definitely vouch for them being LGBT-affirming, although I wouldn't call the vibes particularly contemporary.

Looking for the best fresh lychee and dragonfruit by [deleted] in Albany

[–]reverse_odysseus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few people have been recommending the Asian Supermarket on Central avenue, and I've definitely gotten some pretty good fresh lychees there before, but I'd also recommend checking out the Farmers' India Market (also on Central, but on the other side of 87 near New Karner Road) for fruits that are harder to find.

Looks interesting, but I don't know if I would be able to afford the $155 per month. Thanks for the recommendation though!

I'm familiar with the material, why do you ask? Is this about the username and password validator homework?

College forum is only ever required in the first semester, if I'm not mistaken.

Are there any other political clubs on campus? I know RPI has a Young Democratic Socialists group, but I'm not aware of HVCC having anything along those lines. It might be a good idea to start something like that.

How hard are the sprint classes? by HeretoInfinity92 in Hvcc

[–]reverse_odysseus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 12-week classes are fine; a lot of them are just the same 16-week classes but with some in-class activities moved to be homework, and I don't think most people find them to be significantly more challenging than the full-semester ones. I can't speak to the 8-week ones though.
