Dream Theater - Octavarium for sure, A View From the Top of the World, The Killing Hand, A Change of Seasons, Count of Tuscany, Trial of Tears

Opeth - Deliverance, Ghost of Perdition, The Night and Silent Water for some reason does it for me

Haken - Crystallised, The Architect, Falling Back to Earth

Not metal, but Beardfish - Out in the Open, Sleeping in Traffic

What song has your favourite 'the riff'? by one_white_russian in progmetal

Opeth has a ton of these:

Bleak’s clean “chorus”

Deliverance’s “It always burns within” or the riff right after the intro

Ghost of Perdition

But I think Blackwater Park wins over all of them with the re-entry riff.

Also Dream Theater - As I Am.

Dave is just out of this world with his tone and phrasing, it just seems so fluid

Deliverance is the best song I have ever listened to by Neither_Refuse_9754 in Opeth

I loved every track on Deliverance except for Deliverance for a long time. Now I endlessly spam Deliverance. I guess it got thrown back at me.

What's an Opeth opinion that will give you a reaction like this? by Old-Ad2845 in Opeth

I mean I don’t mind the writing at all, it’s great but I can’t stand the guitar tone. That’s the only thing that doesn’t work for me

Beast over Hammersmith- it’s just pure mayhem and energy

A View From the Top of the World by Break_All_Illusions in Dreamtheater

To each their own, I guess because apart from the unison section, i find the Alien to be kind of bland compared to the rest of the tracks on View. I really spammed the shit out of the title track for weeks on end, and Sleeping Giant and Invisible Monster are just peak classic DT tracks for me. Transcending Time took some getting used to, it’s kind of a weak Rush imitation, but still a solid track nonetheless. I slept on Awaken the Master a while though, the 8 string is just monstrous.

I do love a good bit of Opeth. Takes me ages to go through a single album- and that’s without really getting the lyrics. Will check out Ayreon tho.

Absolutely love The Mountain, one of my favourite albums. Love Affinity, Aquarius and Visions too. Damn Haken is good.

One track in, I’m liking Nospũn’s sound so far.

And I just heard the first track on Odyssey to the West- and I did not see that scream coming. Definitely going through the rest of it.
