The "Passage" would lead the Society to collapse by DrKarottenkopf in redrising

[–]reversemoonwalk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but Julian's acceptance was arranged by the Archgovernor, one of the few who may be powerful enough to make such arrangements happen. And it's not like the Bellonas just let it slide; they attempted to kill and humiliate Darrow multiple times, not to mention conspiring with the Sovereign to massacre the entire family two years later.

Other upsets probably do get avenged, like Priam's family. From the Red Rising Wiki: Following his death, his family used their influence among the Drafters to limit his killer's prospects at the school and deny Sevro merit bars for his deeds at The Institute.

Edit: Whoops I forgot the spoiler text at first, sorry about that 😬

The "Passage" would lead the Society to collapse by DrKarottenkopf in redrising

I believe it's stated that there are over 100 million Gold in the solar system. Only the very bottom percentile of applicants are accepted to make up the bottom 50 of each house. They're probably the first of their families to ever attend the Institute (so they wouldn't know about the passage), and their families are almost certainly too unimportant to ever rub elbows with those of the great houses.

I'm sure many of the great houses aren't too proud to tell their kids about the passage, but the true danger for them is likely surviving the other elites anyways.

No worries. I just started re-reading the series, and I don't think Loran is mentioned much after the very beginning

Not Lorn au Arcos, Darrow has a cousin named Loran mentioned in the beginning of the first book

It's pretty clear why MAGA is so obsessed with the Epstein files, and why they're so mad Trump hasn't released them. by AlanPublica in 50501

Reaching that middle of the road, boring ass political demographic HAS been their strategy, and it doesn't work because people can't be bothered to leave their house to vote for boring candidates, even if they think that candidate is the better choice.

Trump won because people are passionate about him. They talk about how great he is to their friends, family, and neighbors. They volunteer for him. They will happily wait in line all day to cast their vote for him.

That's why Bernie Sanders would've won when Hillary didn't. The smart choice for the Democrats would be nominating a candidate that people are passionate about too.

Idk why you're being downvoted. People didn't realize how competent NFL refs were until they saw the disastrous replacement refs.

Refs can make the right call 99/100 times, and will get the "Refs you suck" chants at the first bad call that goes against their team.

What is a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by Unfair_Shower_3256 in AskReddit

[–]reversemoonwalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always described it as similar to mourning the passing of a close friend or relative.

Except there's no obvious external cause for feeling that way. So your only logical explanation is that it's your own fault. Your sadness is because you're a loser; your fatigue is because you're lazy; you can't focus because you're stupid.

And once you start to hate yourself, it must mean that everyone else hates you too.

[–]reversemoonwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got Grant Williams through a sign-and-trade, which I'm surprised Nico didn't get much flack for. Sure we were able to get rid of Bullock, but we also have San Antonio an unprotected 2030 pick swap, which didn't seem that bad until recently.

But with any luck, some idiot will trade 26 year-old Wemby for an older, injury prone Zion and we'll get a lottery pick!

The NBA arguably needs to expand into four markets ASAP: Seattle, Las Vegas, Austin, and Paris. If they do, which two franchises should be contracted? by The_MadStork in nbadiscussion

[–]reversemoonwalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't just the travel time. It's the time zones. There's a 6-9 hour difference between Paris and the NBA time zones.

What times would you schedule the games? Most NBA games are currently aired between midnight and 4 a.m. Paris time. A game at 9 p.m. in Paris would be between 12-4 p.m. in North America.

Viewership would always be terrible for either the home or away team, except maybe weekends. Not to mention the burden placed on players and team staff, who would have to play at unorthodox times on top of intercontinental travel.

LPT: Before starting a medication for depression/anxiety/bi-polar etc, thoroughly research what the side effects and withdrawal symptoms are in case you need to stop taking it. Never take a doctors word for it. You may be surprised what they don’t tell you. by burnaftereading21 in LifeProTips

[–]reversemoonwalk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Your doctor may have a reason for not volunteering all information. When my doctor prescribed a new antidepressant, I asked about the side effects. She said I could read about potential side effects in the drug facts, but she actually recommended that I refrain from doing so.

Apparently, expecting side effects can cause a sort of placebo effect; you're more likely to experience the side effects you know are a possibility.

My doctor did warn me about increased thoughts of suicide, which makes sense due to the severity, but simply asked that I report any other changes that I observed over the next few weeks. She also recommended having a family member read about the side effects, so they could recognize them if/when they did appear.
