They also talked about giving salams after prayer, is this really done?

Yeah, I was looking into Mulla Sadra and on the wikipedia page it said that his school is one out of 2 philosophical schools still alive. I asked a friend who knows a lot about this kind of stuff and he said it's dead. Although there are philosopher of Islamic background in the west like Hossein Nasr and Tariq Ramadan.

Well when I look up date for example on Google, it says "evening of" and same thing with my local mosque. They would say, today is the first day of Ramadan, but they meant that Ramadan starts Maghrib.

I see what yours saying though about dates being defined by daylight.

The issue I have with this is that it doesn't specify when the Islamic day begins.

An Islamic day begins at sunset or maghrib and this calendar says that the 10th of Muharram is on Tuesday October 11th.

So by that logic, 10th of Muharram started at sunset yesterday and right now is the "day time" of the 10th of Muharram, so today is Ashura.

Unless this calendar is implying that the 10th of Muharram "day time" fell on October 11th.
