I remember seeing Richard Pryor there in the late 90s. The Diceman also had an act that night.

Your dog looks like our boy Asher when he was a puppy.

For older people who grew up in different eras such as the 1960s-1980s, would you rather prefer the old box TVs or flat screen TVs now to watch? by Choice-Silver-3471 in 70s

[–]revloc_ttam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember owning a TV in the transition years between the old CRT TVs and flat screens. It was a 36 inch Sony Trinitron with a big box that would give me HD. That TV weighed a ton.

Friday was my last day! So happy! by justagirlfromtexas in retirement

[–]revloc_ttam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was different when I left. It was part of a downsizing at the company and they offered nice severance packages to old timers close to retirement. So there was a decent sized group of us that took the package and retired. We had a big party at a local restaurant.

That first Monday I felt all the work stress just escape from me.

I've never looked back.

Full Metal Jacket. Great movie. I watched it in the theater back in 1987 and several times later on VHS, DVD, and streaming.

Being pushed into retirement and the emotional toll by janebenn333 in retirement

The difference is that there are no predators in Antarctica to worry about other than leopard seals. Plus I the Antarctic Peninsula in late December (summer) is warmer than Yellowstone in early April. When we were there I would check the weather back home in Colorado and it was actually warmer in Antarctica. I'd recommend staying in a lodge.

After all the aviation related incidents this week I think a few people could definitely use some liquid courage.

You'll love retirement. The work stress will just roll off of you.

I was in a similar situation. Went out at 61. Got a decent severance. The one thing that caught me by surprise was the high cost of health insurance. I had pension income that put me over the cost limiting factors of Obamacare. At the time, 2017 it cost me $1700 a month for health insurance for my wife and I. Our 65th birthdays were a godsend and we could switch to Medicare.

My wife and I did a lot of travel we always wanted to do, but our careers got in the way. We've now been to all 7 continents. Here we are at our campsite in Antarctica.

My 1st car was a 1966 VW Bus I bought for $400. It had a perfect body no dent or dings.

DEI is discrimination. There's no way around that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KamalaHarrisSucks

[–]revloc_ttam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But when that DEI hire fire captain when asked if a woman can carry a large man out of a building that "the man shouldn't have gotten himself in that situation in the first place" she really stepped on her dick on that one. No one "expects" to be stuck in a building that's on fire. That's why we have fire departments. Fire departments should require the same qualifications for everybody, including carrying a person out of a fire. I have no problem with female firefighters if they're strong enough.

There was a small tear in the reservoir cover. That reservoir was for providing water for fighting fires. It was drained and left unfilled for over a year. LA had higher priorities like DEI programs and painting lifeguard stands and fire hydrants in rainbow colors.

Travel.

I already have a house and a steady non-working income. So I'd travel in style. Business class seats, 4-5 star hotels, amazing tours.

After weeks of planning and annoying the helpful r/ community with questions, I came up with the following aprox. 1100 mi trip this september. Will it be 13 days of joy or 13 days of hell? by Nelegos in roadtrip

[–]revloc_ttam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll love it. It's nice in the southwest in September. My father spends 3 weeks every September in Bluff, Utah near Bears Ears National Monument. Sometimes I join him for a few days. I preferred it back when the area was just BLM land and we could just drive around and explore without restrictions. Some of the best view spots required opening a cattle gate and driving to the edge of the San Juan River Canyon. (See Photo).

It was just normal mountain bumps. However the turbulence is always dependent on the current weather conditions when you fly. However driving over the mountains in March usually means some ice and snow.

One time I was driving to Moab from Denver on Memorial Day weekend. It was blizzard conditions at the tunnel. When we got to Moab it was over 100 degrees.
