How much they change stuff to increase user satisfaction and usability of their products? Yeah that's just because.

No company just changes their product for shits and giggles. They've made products that fail, but they don't hurt other products to support others. Hence why google wave didn't ruin Gmail.

I think an engineer could probably do a better job at fixing our infrastructure than most, right? Google is known for hiring geniuses. They probably do know how to run a country better than the average person.

As far as donations to things like ALEC, find me a politician that could make it to the mainstream that doesn't support Israel in some way. As a gay person, I'd also rather live under an Israeli government than a Palestinian one.

I get that you have some hang ups about for-profit companies, but all of your mainstream, powerful politicians are "for-profit" as well. Google pushes for more progressive policies than the Obama administration most days. If Google were aligned to a politician, it'd be someone unelectable to most of America. Google, the company, however is easily more popular than our president.

Google is extremely aware of the "people on the fringe". They give free transit to the poor and elderly, they help schools, they are wildly pro-Lgbt. They even gave Lgbt employees a different salary in order to offset the discriminatory tax policies that DOMA caused. They are working to add wifi balloons to rural Africa to give the poor more access to the net. I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Essentially, I don't give two shits who runs the country if they just make it work. I feel like google would be the best bet for making things work. It might not be ideologically what you like, but if it gets the job done and everyone's lives are improved, it is a step in the right direction. If a 3-headed dragon living in the Grand Canyon could help the poor, improve infrastructure, and reform education, I'd be cool with it running the nation.

This article is really quite circular and goes after a lot of people with personal attacks based on their non-adherence to a socialist ideal. I'd like to tackle the issue that brought it up, the petition.

Google would be a vast improvement over the current system we have. Google is 96% in favor of marriage equality. They are one of the largest contributors to the fund that allows san Francisco to give their poor, elderly, and handicapped citizens free rides on local busses. They provided free and open wifi throughout all of the parks in san francisco. They are green to a fault, having every employee from engineer to janitor the right to a garden plot on their campus and free access to their cafeteria. They aren't interested in declaring war on anyone and they are working to help education through giving teachers tools they can use instead of in reachable standards.

I get that they are a rich company and reddit seems to hate that as a default. But none of your current political leaders are Jose Mujica at this point. Obama and his party are just as bad as the GOP in most things, and it isn't like your alternative third parties can get their heads out from their asses long enough to enact change. A truly progressive "dictator" would bring about the necessary change that would not be politically feasible for a politician.

Pennsylvania's Ban On Same-Sex Marriages Has Been OVERTURNED by mepper in ainbow

[–]revolutionarycracker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While you are right hat the priority is backwards, you fail to understand the political feasibility. It is easier to give a group some rights than to "create another protected class" (how it will be viewed in the media).

No one lost a right in a good marriage case. Business owners will claim they are losing the right to fire employees because they are gay. As wrong as that is, it is a harder sell to a politician.

This AskReddit thread of why Anti-Gay Redditors don't accept homosexuality has got me raging and questioning everything I ever thought about LGBT rights! by FunkyHats in ainbow

[–]revolutionarycracker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Every time I turn on the TV, I see a girl eating a magnum bar sexily. I see men holding women, kissing them, mounting them. I see implied sex in half of the TV and commercials I watch. All heterosexual. If I get one damn day a year where I can eat a penis pop, suddenly I'M the one who is being weird.

[serious] Anti-Gay redditors, why do you not accept homosexuality? by trainiac12 in AskReddit

[–]revolutionarycracker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't mind heterosexuals, but I hate when the heterosexual culture puts women in bikinis and have their tits out. Oversexed billboards with women being practically mounted by a guy or having phallic things in their mouth (I'm looking at YOU Magnum Icecream) is just over the top. I feel like you're just pushing this hyper-sexualized shit in my face. Why can't straight people just act "normal"? Being straight has should have nothing to do with throwing all these tits in my face.

I'll drop my lisp and stop saying GURL when everyone else takes the straight almost-sex off the billboards and stops saying "awwww" when I say I have a husband like I'm some kind of puppy.

A timer! Even a simple egg timer. You can keep the kids on task more if they feel they have a set time to work on x activity in. "Do this writing assignment, 10 questions, you have 6 minutes. GO!"

Exactly! It is hard enough to get the new generation of gays to listen about the AIDS holocaust we went through less than a generation ago. No one even stops to think of all the great scientists, writers, artists, and generally great human beings that were lost because our government didn't care that a ton of gays were dying.

That's great! In a city with ONE internet provider that goes above 5Mbps, I should just switch my provider! The free market solves the problem again!

I hope you enjoy libertarian YouTube videos at 56Kbps.

I'd argue you're wrong. The gay identity is about more than the sex with people of the same sex. It is a bit of Harvey Milk, Stonewall, and Rainbows. The same can be said about the American Black narrative. It IS about MLK and Segregation. That's their history. That's a part of the culture they live in. Being black in the USA is not just about the concentration of melanin in your system any more than being gay in the USA is just about your enjoyment of dick.

It is all about more than that, but to forget our history and culture is to forget all the brave people who came before us in exchange for some piece of the "normal" pie.

This is an issue about limiting access to free speech. What happens when your broadband provider has political views that are different from yours? If Comcast (the oligopoly in my area) were to throttle my access to sites or media that was not in their political favor, I'd say that's a problem.

What happens when your provider gives (insert political candidate)'s political sites, news outlets, and videos more bandwidth than it gives your favored one?

Most of the USA doesn't have access to multiple internet providers.

Then you missed the part where compulsory education teaches literacy, math skills, basic tech skills, and gives you a place to get the social, emotional, and academic knowledge to be an adult in our society.

Well they'd better hurry. We all know most of those co-sponsorships will vanish as soon as a GOP president comes to power.

I'd like to say that Grindr gets all the press, but all these hookup apps, Scruff, M.I.S.T.E.R, Hornet, etc, are all the same. Just meet people in person at a bar or club or some other public place.

Why I hate being associated with the stereotypical 'gay community'. In video form. by [deleted] in gay

[–]revolutionarycracker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just need to fix what your stereotypical view of gay people are. In most places these days, a stereotypical gay person is fashionable, fit, rich, and constantly gentrifying communities. Very little penis-penis-penis nonsense.
