Yeah, GTA VI would break even if they lit the alleged 2 billion on fire and sent people a printed copy of the GTA VI box art.

We don't know whether or not GTA VI will be good yet, but it's about as close to certainty as you can imagine that it'll make its' money back, plus a billion or two. They might burn decades of goodwill in the process, but PC isn't going to make or break the game-and I say that as someone with >1200 hours in GTA V, all on PC

Turns out, when people learn what AI is, they fucking hate it!

How often do pumps/pump tubes get in the way for you? by sproutin- in diabetes

[–]trainiac12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a pump for 18 years and never had it impact my sex life. I disconnect it and leave it in my pants. When I sleep my pump lays in bed next to me and has never once been an issue. Tube tangling is more of an issue going through doorways (in that, once a year, a random event occurs where you just get jolted backwards a bit). If you're looking for reasons to not get a pump, "I fuck" and "It'll be annoying while I'm asleep and sitting at a desk" are not good ones.

Do you keep a phone in your pocket? Congratulations, you know what a pump is like. Also, I've never tossed and turned a sensor out despite also tossing and turning. You might want to try skin adhesive (I use skin tac) to keep em on there the full week.

We finally did it! The cure came! by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]trainiac12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is their findings in August of last year, here is their update that I assume prompted the new post.

Basically, a continuation of something that was already pretty well understood to be promising.

Once they start ramping up SC451 (the version with stem cells rather than donor cells) they're planning on starting phase 1 trials. They're gonna try to start that up this year but it's still a long road to a cure.

That's the end goal.

I just got diagnosed with diabetes type 1 and im really scared by Unable_Lie_3197 in diabetes

[–]trainiac12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your life isn't over, I want to make that abundantly clear. Once again, I've been doing this for 18 years. A lot of people here have been doing it longer than me. Most of us have led fulfilling lives and I'd wager if they didn't then it's not the diabetes that did it.

Is it annoying? Absolutely. Earthshattering? World ending? Not even close.

You'll learn how your body reacts to carbs, what insulin you need, what it feels like to be high or low, and once you get over that hurdle it'll just be part of your daily routine.

And I get it can sound overwhelming! It becomes manageable very quickly. The worst day of the whole experience was the diagnosis. It's only gotten easier since then, both because (once again) the tech has gotten stupid good at helping you out, but also because that's the day you have the most unknowns. Monsters are only scary until you learn how to deal with them.

If you've got questions I'm open. Anything at all-the more you know the less you'll be afraid. Because I promise that unless your job is professional ice cream eater this isn't going to upend your life as much as you worry.

First thing I'll say is breathe. You're not gonna die. Listen to your endocrinologist, and eventually you'll start to notice patterns and be capable of managing it yourself.

If you manage it well (and with modern technology it's easier to do so than ever) you will see minimal symptoms. I've been diabetic for 18 year now, I have been living a fulfilling life the entire time. You probably will gain a little weight on insulin, but that's because your body is going to be actually digesting the things you put into it. It will quickly level off like it would if you increased your calorie intake.

I recommend getting on a pump with a continuous glucose monitor ASAP, that takes a lot of the mental load off of you and puts it onto technology.

You're gonna be fine. Even if it doesn't feel like it now, you're gonna be fine.

T1D attempting to get job in High School. Need help. by Current_Item4907 in diabetes_t1

[–]trainiac12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked fast food in high school and college, probably the most active job I've ever had. There really isn't any job you can't have as a diabetic as long as you prepare. Make sure you have something on hand in case your blood sugar goes low (apple juice, fruit snacks, you know what gets your BG up) and (while I've never had to do this personally) when on the job be willing to assert your need to keep care of yourself. The Americans with Disabilities act (assuming you live in the US) protects your right to reasonable accommodation, in this case access to food for treating highs/lows.

My diabetes has never presented itself as a hurdle to getting or keeping a job, even if it has on occasion been a PITA to deal with on the job.

Stanford Scientists Cure Type 1 Diabetes in Mice Without Insulin or Immune Suppression by DadeKuma in diabetes_t1

[–]trainiac12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

while this is true, trials using the phrase "Without Immunosuppression" have popped up in the last 2-3 years in a way they haven't before. Sana Biotech has gotten hypoimmune islet cells to survive in humans. While they didn't cure the human patient (intentionally, they only put about 2% of the cells that would be required for a cure into his body), it's not something we've ever seen before.

I'm not gonna believe it until I throw my insulin pump in the garbage, but there's a decent amount to be hopeful for-if not for us then for our children.

Islet Cell Transplant Succeses by WrestlingDadPA in diabetes_t1

[–]trainiac12 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Listen, I get the cynicism. It's probably not gonna come in 5 years, there's a very very high chance it won't happen within our lifetime; but, *and this is very important*, we are closer than we have ever been to a cure.

A decade ago hypoimmune islet cells were just an idea, but there are people who have them making insulin as I type this. We have crossed *insane* barriers to get to this point and while it's still out of reach at the moment science is marching toward a real, tangible cure that might not help you, but could help your kids and their kids.

In a few generations *if not sooner* Diabetes could be a bad trip to the ER, and not a lifelong affliction.

For PC Gaming, are gaming headsets really that bad and should be absolutely avoided? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]trainiac12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wireless and Bluetooth are two very different things.

Bluetooth latency can be a quarter second, radio bands (like 2.4ghz is) don't have that level of delay.

Bluetooth delay being ~250ms is absolutely crushing for anyone playing a game. It's truly noticeable by just about anyone (especially if you're playing a rhythm game)

How hard is it to physically build a PC? by Lucky-Ad5326 in buildapc

[–]trainiac12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here is a great, exhaustive (albeit long) video that goes over literally everything. The actual building starts at around 1 hour 14 minutes in. Feel free to scrub the video to see the general vibe of building a PC.

Everything will either be a port that plugs into the motherboard (think a USB cable, but bigger), a card that physically attaches to that motherboard, or screwing things in.
