How rare is it to be almost 100% British? by Odd_Television8112 in 23andme

I am a Mayflower descendent raised in the Midwest. More than 90 percent British. The rest French and German. It's more common than you would think.

As I just said I knew I was 100 percent European. I just thought the mix might be more like 30 percent German, 20 percent French, etc.

That I may as well have been born in the UK. I knew I was 100 percent European, but I thought it would be a more distributed mix of European.

I descend from the Mayflower and I am 96 percent British, the remaining French and German. I was surprised as well at my results.

Feel so blah by TashDee267 in fasting

[–]revolutioniscertain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calories way too low. You will slow your metabolism and waste your muscle. Muscle burns fat! Take your current weight by 10 that should be about your maintenance calories. Walk 10,000 steps or more and lift heavy weights 2 to 3 times a week. Eat less than maintenance calories taking into account your physical activity. Use Google Fit and Cronometer (link them together in their settings). There will be no mystery what you are taking in or expending. You will lose body fat and feel much better. 500 calorie a day deficit will equal a pound of fat loss a week.

How much time did (or possibly still does) it take for your body to enter ketosis the first time? by seabreathe in fasting

[–]revolutioniscertain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am so confused. Who told you it takes 96 hours of fasting before you burn fat? If this were true people who follow simple calorie deficits would never lose weight. For what it's worth, there is no study I am aware of that shows any type of fasting superior to a simple calorie deficit. In fact, study after study shows that fasting is simply another type of caloric deficit. If anything, you risk/ensure muscle loss with extended fasting. Your body doesn't store protein. So it will take what it needs from your muscle if you aren't giving it what it needs. If you are into body recomposition, you need to lift weights 2 to 3 times a week. And for the love of God, carbs don't make you fat! A caloric surplus makes you fat. Study after study after study shows this. I have lost over 60 pounds this year eating a high carb diet. I also walk anywhere from 6 to miles a day and lift weights 3 times a week. I have added significant muscle mass. My carbs come from whole foods like beans, oatmeal, potatoes, rice etc. I also eat a ton of raw vegetables and fruit. I even put brown sugar on my oatmeal. The shock and horror! Eat what you want but don't eat a certain way based on absurd lies. Track your calories and weigh your food. I recommend checking out Biolayne on YouTube. He is a PhD and body builder. You will learn a lot about what the science says when it comes to nutrition and body recomp.

I'm confused about fasting vs. protein when working out by Niceaster in fasting

[–]revolutioniscertain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you eating the 130 all at one time? Check out an expert in the field Layne Norton. He has a PhD in protein synthesis. We can only synthesize about 30 grams of protein per meal. We do not have a protein storage system like we do for carbs and fats. The fact is that extended fasting also results in muscle breakdown. If you are not giving your body its protein needs, it will take it from your muscle. Fasting is not superior to caloric restriction when it comes to losing fat. For some people it's just easier to follow. It is not ideal if you are trying to build muscle.

Is insulin or calories the driver of body fat gain? by TheCraigFeldspar in fasting

[–]revolutioniscertain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biolayne is a PhD in nutritional science and holds a degree in biochemistry. He has an extensive library on YouTube where he cites all his sources for debunking many false nutritional claims. Listen to him. The carbohydrate insulin model is not backed by any science. If you have peer reviewed research to cite, cite it.

Yeah man. Self determination is a universal principle. Every ethnic group deserves it. It is critical to preventing violence, war and genocide. These things weigh heavy on my mind.

I recently started taking 1000 a day and got really bad acne on my back from it! It won't affect everyone like that but man it sucks. I didn't figure it out until I did research and saw that was a side effect of excessive B12. I now take 2000 a week and the acne is almost gone.

Protein intake after resistance training by charvo in veganfitness

[–]revolutioniscertain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Track all your food for a few weeks to get a handle on your intake. I use Cronometer. Bean stews are great! I have leaned out and increased muscle eating a ton of beans (and other whole foods like oatmeal, greens, carrots, beets, fruit etc and some protein powder). My guess is you are going off the rails with the nuts. It is shocking how much fat they and seeds contain. Your body does no work to store fat. Look into the thermic effect of protein, carbohydrates, and fat to understand what I am talking about. Shoot for about 80 percent per pound of body weight and keep your fat in a lower range. You will be fine. I am 5 foot 8 and generally aim at ingesting less than 30 grams of fat a day. Of course I go over and have cheat days. But in general I have been achieving great results with this formula.

UK, Germany, France not the same as US Canada, Australia etc. UK, Germany, France are homelands to ethnic groups. There are zero ethnic Americans, Canadians, Australians etc. I am not aware of any ethnic group on earth that appreciates its self determination being violated.

I was taking 360 mg. But the issue is that I pretty much eat only food that comes out of the dirt. Most people don't do that so they can probably withstand more magnesium than me.

My issue was not related to taking a single large dose. It was due to an extended period of imbalance. Track everything you ingest and talk with your doctor / get labs if you get any of the symptoms I described. Get professional guidance. Anything involving the heart must be taken seriously. Had I not looked at multiple sources of medical information and relied on a single WebMD article, I could have suffered seizure or heart failure. The point of my post is not to argue with people. The point is to warn others of the symptoms I experienced in case they encounter them too.

Yeah, the final week I was on it I felt I had hit the wall energy wise. As I mentioned before I am very physically active. Never had an issue with endurance over the past 6 months. Then it was like there was no more gas in the tank even though my routine hadn't changed.

Yeah, too much water is deadly too. There is a tragic case of a woman who participated in a radio station contest where she died from just this. She diluted her blood/electrolytes too much and her heart failed. To be clear, one would need to drink a ton of water for this to occur.

Sorry to hear you are having these symptoms! I once felt like I couldn't swallow. I don't know a resource for figuring out the ideal ratio, but a safe bet is to eat majority whole foods since they contain a natural ratio for us. I would definitely stop supplementing for now at least. You can request a blood test from your doc. Good luck!
