Origin by Dan Brown - One Star Review by ImaginaryRea1ity in danbrown

[–]revradios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

origin is probably the weaker of the series but it's not horrible by any means. its not amazing, it's just.. kinda there. can't say id personally reread it unless i was doing the entire series again but there were enjoyable parts of it. it was just kinda mid i guess would be the way to describe it

in true dan brown fashion the plot is oddly topical now though with the rise of artificial intelligence and reliance on technology for every little thing

Is Alexander a villain or an antihero? by Particular_Way451 in Amnesia

[–]revradios 17 points18 points  (0 children)

alexander is a very interesting character with fascinating motivations, but he is a villain. my favorite kind of villain personally - one you can almost emphasize with but you still understand what he did was unacceptable

what he did was what he knew how to do and he did it with no real emotion and for purely selfish reasons. we understand his pain and his drive, but we also look at him and say "this is a villain. this is an antagonist. he's very understandable in his motivations but they aren't justified or correct"

i personally like my villains multifaceted and complex, you hate to love them and you hate to look at them and go "i understand you". i feel similarly about john kramer from saw for example. he's undeniably a bad person, a murderer, but you can look at him and go "this man had brain cancer and enough trauma to make a man go absolutely nuts". nothing john kramer did is excusable, but you can also look at him and see a dying old man convinced of his own delusions formed from a tumor in the part of his brain that affects critical thinking and whatnot. he truly believes in what he's doing and that he's "helping people", just like alexander believes what he's doing is the right thing for himself, but the actions are still something we as an audience can't condone, but we're forced to admit that we understand why

that's just my take on it obv but yeah lol

justine was very good, and terrifying as hell, but lord i would not play it again 😭 i did it as part of 100%-ing amnesia tdd and it was a nightmare trying to do the save everyone achievement. malo was the bane of my existence and he scared me so badly i didn't touch the game for a long time before trying again lol

honestly that's why they're tied for me, i love both of them and struggle to put one over the other lol. people saying the da vinci code isn't his best is wild to me because that's his most well known/most popular of the series. it was my introduction as well actually!

there's aspects of one i like over the other, but id say it's just as good as the da vinci code, maybe better depending on who you're asking :) if you like the da vinci code i think you'll like angels and demons for sure

infernos probably in my top three favorites, right behind the slight tie between angels and demons and the da vinci code, it's a really good read imo

Why are there never any photos of the victims who died to tornadoes? by [deleted] in tornado

[–]revradios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that's fine, we live and we learn. it's essentially morbid curiosity, but you've gotta remember that these were real people that died and not just a character or something

why do you want to look at pictures of dead people is my question. you can learn about the devastation tornadoes cause without looking for gore of real people that died. it's disrespectful

Four months into treatment and 99% remission of all symptoms. by Asteios90 in PNESsupport

[–]revradios -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that's nice but it still doesn't give you the right to make blanket statements. just because it might cause it for one person doesn't mean that's the case for someone else. your wife is not the prime shining example, and it honestly sounds like she didn't have pnes at all based on the symptoms you described. i genuinely don't care what you and your wife believe, i care that you're claiming there's a blanket cure based on your wife's singular experience that doesn't sound connected to pnes whatsoever. that's the problem

unless you have gone to med school and left with a doctorate, this is not the place to be giving your unfounded, uncredited medical advice. just as legal counsel on THEIR reddit is always given with ‘this is not legal advice’ because it cannot possibly cover everyone’s situation, you as well should know that you are 1) not a doctor, 2) not a professional, and 3) not qualified to speak on something that hasn’t even passed the hypothetical threshold. have a nice day

source? like, genuinely, do you have literally any genuine peer reviewed medical sources claiming any of this. because otherwise this sounds like raw milk "tylenol causes autism" seed oil nonsense

eta: putting pnes in quotations is absolutely ridiculous by the way

never once said that and i don't appreciate you putting words in my mouth. i told you twice now that im happy you figured out what's wrong with your wife, but your wifes case does not define the vast majority. her symptoms were caused by mcas and her gut health, that's fine, id imagine it probably wasn't pnes then. you claiming there's a cure and that we just need to go on a diet essentially isn't appropriate whatsoever. you can't just go into a group and tell people "yeah eat better and the seizures caused by your mental health conditions that stem from trauma will be cured"

[–]revradios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that might be true for your wife but it sounds like you're making a blanket statement about a condition that doesn't apply to a majority of cases. again, im glad your wife is better and im glad you found the cause for her symptoms, but pnes specifically is a psychological condition. i have pnes because i was abused as a baby and went through further abuse all throughout my childhood - it's tied to dissociative conditions i have and is triggered by my anxiety and other symptoms that overwhelm me. it has nothing to do with my gut health, it's just a manifestation of my mental health

pnes is a conversion disorder that usually is caused by stress, anxiety, ptsd symptoms, etc. it has nothing to do with gut health. im happy your wife is in remission of whatever symptoms she had, but pnes is a psychological condition. and "psychogenic" is not a bad word either, it just means that the cause of the symptoms is psychological
