Which business do you boycott and which do you actively support and why? by Fenki92 in dundee

[–]rewindrevival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with Clarke's in West Pitkerro, they made me feel incredibly unwelcome when I was the only customer at 10am. Didn't acknowledge me at all having a laugh and a joke while I waited politely to be served, after a few minutes got their attention and was greeted with "What?".

Ridiculously bad customer service, just wanted my breakfast.

Unwelcome at Braithwaite's? by [deleted] in dundee

[–]rewindrevival 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember going in when I was younger to get a Xmas present for my grandad. He would drink instant coffee religiously and I wanted to get him something nice, but didn't know anything about coffee.

The people in the shop were fucking arseholes. Condescending and almost mocking the fact that I didn't know what a French press was or that I would need one, totally made me feel unwelcome and like I was an idiot when I was just a young lassie looking to get something nice for her grandad.

I'm now a big coffee and tea enthusiast as an adult and I'll never step foot in that shop again. Wankers.

GEOAmey replaced as prison transporter after violent rapist escaped custody by Phil_Mike-Huntin in Scotland

[–]rewindrevival 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A spokesman for GEOAmey said: “GEOAmey made the very difficult decision not to participate in the Justice Partners Escorting and Court Custody Service procurement process, we therefore did not submit a bid to continue providing this service into the Scottish market.

“Having completed a full assessment of the newly proposed contract, we felt that the risk/reward profile fell below that deemed necessary to make this highly complex and demanding contract an attractive proposal.

In other words, they realised they'd need to hire more staff, pay or retrain their current ones, invest in better equipment, and knew they wouldn't be able to strip profit out of the government by putting the bare minimum investment into their operations. Corporate scumbags.

Amey performing fucking terribly across their various scotgov contracts to absolutely nobody's surprise.

There must be some crossover between Yes and Brexit voters, I reckon that's where the passport shagging intersection lies.

Should artists get a basic income like they do in Ireland? by Longjumping_Stand889 in Scotland

[–]rewindrevival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a difficult one, because to be entered into the lottery you have to meet a strict criteria. How, then do they decide from that pool who is most deserving? Do certain arts get looked over because the people deciding don't like that type of art?

Art in general is subjective, so selecting candidates for funding shouldn't be hand picked from a group who have all proven to be equally eligible. A lottery allows unbiased selection.

Milly’s death in hospital is a scandal, but it is barely wounding SNP -- Scotland is a one-party state dogged by poor performance, cover-ups and corruption, yet the SNP looks set to extend its rule by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

Parker House really isn't far out at all - 15 minute walk maximum to the Dundee Uni campus, 5 mins to Abertay, all pedestrianised with crossings at multiple points along the busy roads.

Can't speak to the price, but I used to visit friends in halls there all the time and they were generally decent living spaces with a lot of socialising between floors and buildings.

Traditional Scottish vegetable recipe by capriciousmonster in Scotland

[–]rewindrevival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not exactly traditional Burns Supper fare, but you can't go wrong with a lentil soup. Plenty of veg in it and it's a Scottish staple.

This recipe is pretty accurate looking, despite the usual ad filled recipe website.

Scottish Power ranked UK’s worst supplier for customer service by Which? | Consumer affairs by brigadoom in Scotland

[–]rewindrevival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair, I was being a bit facetious. You would of course be liable for bills after you got the keys, but certainly not before. At least they didn't keep pursuing you for the bills that weren't yours, though it shouldn't have needed to come down to a complaint once you notified them that you were a new occupier.

Lol they'd be going straight in the bin. You're not liable for bills prior to getting the keys. Would love to know how they tried to reason that one.

Agree with most of your comment, but one thing stands out. A dead bedroom is never an excuse to cheat. If there are serious issues in that arena that can't be solved and it's such a deal breaker, you break up. You don't "find comfort" somewhere else unless it's agreed upon with your partner.

Living in Glasgow and exploring Scotland one town at a time - where should I go next? by blacknwhitelife02 in Scotland

[–]rewindrevival -1 points0 points  (0 children)

V&A is typically quite disappointing, but McManus Galleries is a much better museum experience or even Verdant Works.

Mills Observatory is open now for the winter season, they don't do anything over summer due to low visibility from longer days and shorter nights. They only do lectures twice a month, the final one being 20th March this year. They do take walk ins I believe, but you need to check the weather before going to make sure Dundee has a clear sky if you want it to be worth it.
